It's time to invoke the NUCLEAR OPTION
I don't think we have any other choice.

These are the final days to accomplish anything on the Democrats' agenda.

Once the new House is seated in January - there will be nothing but gridlock.

Go nuclear, Reid.

The middle class tax cuts depend on it.
The repeal of DADT depends on it.
The Dream Act depends on it.
The President's stalled judicial appointees depend on it.
The START Treaty depends on it.
The Unemployment extension depends on it.

There's too much to lose and we can't wait until 2012.

5. God, that would be dumb.
We're not going to be able to pass anything during the next two years, because the Republicans hold the House and, unlike the Democrats, they actually vote as a single bloc.

In 2012 the Senate is certainly going to the Republicans. We might well re-elect Obama, we might even retake the House, but we are certainly going to lose the Senate. 2014 looks just as grim.

So long as Republicans continue to get away with obstructionism, nothing will get passed. So, we'd be forever neutering any power we might ever have as the minority party, and in exchange for what? Three weeks of passing medium-priority legislation? No thanks.

13. Middle class tax cuts are not "medium priority" legislation.

If the Democrats' tax plan doesn't get passed now, it never will.

The economy will never improve with the Obama-McConnell deal, and that certainly sinks the Senate in 2012.

Improve the economy with legislation NOW or say goodbye to the the White House and the Senate in 2012.

If it looks grim from this perspective, it will look worse if unemployment stays as bad as it is.

14. Only from a short-term political viewpoint. Things were fine under Clinton.
Averting a return to Clinton-level taxes is not sufficient cause to radically alter the definition of "minority party" in Washington.

15. Except.....
Do you really believe that if we don't use the nuclear option, that the Republicans won't when they gain control?

And how many fillibusters did we use when they had power the last time? We didn't use it for the tax cuts the first time round, or any real important legislation. Why not? Because the Republicans said that if we did, they would go nuclear. So it really matters not.

10. You're asking REID to go nuclear?
The closest Harry Reid ever got to nuclear was that time he went to a Mexican restaurant.
