21. So Mr. NAFTA wants this? Good enough reason to kill it then.
We all know what a help he was with that. Makes me laugh to think they believe trotting out Billo will be enough to pull the dems together and bring the libs in. HA!

11. So THIS is what it took for him to stand aside Obama and ask America's help.
For frigging uber-rich tax cut extensions.

5. Goodbye, Social Security
"Payroll tax relief" won't motivate any business owner to hire people. Only demand for what they make will do that.

What is it with these "democrats" like Clinton and Obama siding up with the republicans AGAINST their own professed party? (Rhetorical, since we all know the answer.)

9. Sanders explained
In his filibuster that those who are for the 'payroll tax holiday' are doing it to get rid of Social Security. The oligarchs are moving fast and strong to destroy everything. Anyone who thinks that is about anything but ending SS needs help.

George Carlin said they would. From the right we've got them brainwashing people into thinking it's bad and people who paid in are bad, that anyone who isn't rich ought to shut up. It's being done all nice and legal. Now we have Clinton on the bandwagon to usher it in faster.

What's up, the American people aren't dying fast enough?

23. They Do This Because
As the movie title goes, 'The World Is Not Enough.' This country is not enough, they see a bigger game they want to win.

They are competing with the oligarchs of other nations to see who will be the most powerful and richest on the planet. In their world view we are nothing but tools for their survival.

It's not like this viewpoint is all that new. Many millions have died for empires throughout history. We have all the elements at play here, militarism, finances and ownership of all resources.

27. Thanks
For the welcome, wish I'd joined here a long time ago. It gets really tiring arguing with the meme the mainstream media is putting out on other political websites. After a while, trying to answer the sloganeering with facts or ideas is like talking to a bot!

what your issues of choice are.

The whole society has become much less caring, and it shows up on DU, also.

15. Clinton doesn't need Social Security because he has become very
wealthy.

So of course he doesn't care about what happens to the funding for Social Security.

22. He is correct, among the available options
A payroll tax reduction puts money in the hands of folks earning minimum wage and the folks at that end of the economic scale. How did Clinton promote growth? He raised taxes, but he combined that with a major increase in the minimum wage. This got raises to the obvious folks earning the minimum, but as importantly to prevent wage scale compression, the raises went up the line to folks earning a bit more. This put more money in the hands of nearly 30 million workers, fairly quickly, and for the first time since the election of Reagan, real wage growth occurred.

A payroll tax reduction will not have as large an effect, but the effect will be similar in kind.

26. Yeah, just wait until those workers retire and there's no Social Security for them.
A payroll tax "holiday" has long been a right wing wet dream, the first step toward defunding and then destroying Social Security.

Just when do you think this "holiday" will end? With the Repugs in charge of the House and a severely reduced Dem majority in the Senate? No, what we'll hear next is how we can't possibly "raise" payroll taxes.

And shortly thereafter we'll be told that Social Security is so badly underfunded that there'll be no choice but to cut benefits and raise the retirement age.

And after THAT, it will be a short step to privatization.

Only a fool or a plutocrat can support this.

The ones with enough money to burn now?

And then take away the entire social safety net until people are ready to commit mass suicide?

You don't speak for me, Bill.
