Bident watch
Sen. Biden is going to be on This Week with George Stephanopoulos on Sunday. I'm so excited to be able to see him on TV again. I know it's going to make me miss his candidacy though.

4. Yes!!! This is the best news I've heard all week.
I can't wait to see that face, and hear all about his trip to the mid-east.

I wonder if Snuffy is going to ask him about the presidential race.

6. Has anyone heard anything about this?
I haven't had a chance to really look into this yet, but at first glance it looks like Iraqis are starting to act upon the Biden-Gelb approach.

From Charles Krauthammer in the WaPo:

"the Iraqi parliament approved three very significant pieces of legislation. First, a provincial powers law that turns Iraq into arguably the most federal state in the entire Arab world. The provinces get not only power but also elections by Oct. 1. U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker has long been calling this the most crucial step to political stability. It will allow, for example, the pro-American Anbar sheiks to become the legitimate rulers of their province, exercise regional autonomy and forge official relations with the Shiite-dominated central government."

12. It definitely takes some effort to find this stuff...
I had to fall back on the venerable news source juancole.com  for this. It's amazing that none of this ever makes it into the news. I could see dems and repubs jumping all over this as it could easily be spun as victory for the occupation or as a victory for democratic initiatives. Anyway, there's some pretty good detail here on the provinces resolution, but it also gives reason to not be too excited about it for now. A first step at least...

"Al-Hayat reports in Arabic on the passage by the Iraqi parliament of three important laws. These included the annual budget, a general amnesty that will free thousands of mostly Sunni Arab prisoners in the teeming Iraqi security prisons, and finally a "law on the provinces." The action came in the wake of threats by powerful politicians to dissolve parliament if it could not do a simple thing like pass a budget."

The rest is at www.juancole.com under February 14th, as well as links to Al-Hayat for those that have been brushing up on their Arabic recently.:)

10. Wow - I hadn't heard this either. Didn't the bill pass a second time -- and if
so, does anyone know if the President signed it?
