Rumors from DE ~~~~

snips---

I'm sticking with my latest observation of a few weeks ago that it'll be Lt. Gov. John Carney, who lost a close primary race for governor to Gov.-elect Jack Markell.

I'm also hearing that Carney won't simply be a placeholder until 2010 for Attorney General Beau Biden to run for the seat. Carney will be it, assuming he gets elected to serve out the rest of the term until 2014.

But the latest from Democratic Rumor Control Headquarters is that Beau Biden will get the appointment from Markell to fill daddy's seat, requiring his early return from National Guard deployment to Iraq.

If that happens - than that will be my dream come true.
I think it would be the most wonderful thing in the world to have Beau take his father's seat in the Senate.

I'm kinda confused after reading that tho.
Does Carney hold Biden's Senate seat until Beau gets back?
Or does Beau get his cute little tush back here asap?

How are my fellow Bidenites interpreting all this speculation from DE?

Forget who is going to be SoS - these are the appointments I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear.

1. my impression before was Carney... It depends on when Joe resigns
and who is governor at that time to make the appointment (which then lasts until 2010).

Right now it's Minner, who I think supported Carney for his governor's race (lost in primary to Markell) so I assume would appoint Carney, and it would be Carney's. If Joe waits until just before inauguration to resign, I'm not sure who appoint - not sure about the timing of power change from Minner to Markell - but Joe might want to have his successor appointed now - they get slightly more seniority by coming in now. Haven't heard before who Markell favors.

I think Beau should finish out his Iraq tour, finish his term as Atty General, and then he can run for Atty General again (unless there are term limits?), Governor, or Senate, or House, or whatever at that point. I'd rather see Beau stake out his own career than have people say he just got where he is because of his dad.

Listen to me speculate about politics in another state....

3. You make an excellent point about Beau.
If he is brought back from Iraq early and automatically gets appointed to Joe's seat - it will take him alot longer to be respected. I hadn't thought of it that way.

Funny how DE politics has become such a speculation game :)
