Portsmouth Woman Prepares To Attend Inauguration
Woman Is Friend Of Vice President-Elect Biden

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- A Portsmouth woman is packing her bags to head to Washington for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama and her friend, Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

Mary Carey Foley is attending the inauguration as one of Biden's personal guests. She'll be staying at the Mayflower Hotel and will attend one of the inaugural balls.

Foley said she keeps changing her mind about what to pack and what to wear at all the events. Regardless, she said she's excited to see Biden, whom she has known since the mid-1980s, when her mother was the mayor of Portsmouth.

"The minute he walked in the door, the Foley family knew that he was somebody special," Foley said.

Pictures, newspaper clippings on the refrigerator and signed notes hanging on the wall show how she has kept up with Biden, and she said Biden still calls her regularly.

"He calls me from the train and says, 'Mary Carey, you want to go for a train ride?'" she said. "And I'll say, 'Sure.' And that means I'll talk to him on the way home to Delaware from D.C."

Foley will meet up with Biden in Washington.

"I'm going expecting nothing, and whatever happens is going to be wonderful," she said. "I get too excited about stuff, so it's just as well."

All that Foley has been told is to bring one formal outfit and three semi-formal ones -- a big deal for a self-professed tomboy.

"You see my Doc Martens down here? This is special," she said. "This is big for me. This is big. And even bigger is the handbag."

Foley said that she expects that she'll probably cry when she sees her friend inaugurated vice president.

"I really believe in my heart it was sure to happen this way," she said.http://www.wmur.com/news/18424377/detail.html

That is really sweet. How funny must it be to get a call from Joe to talk to him on the train ride home?! That makes me laugh, he needs to talk so he has to call people up. Hope this lady has a good time, this is going to be a very special day.
