2. I'm not familiar with the country's history, but apparently it tells
the story of what happened during WWII? People were crying!

3. The Ukraine was part of Soviet Union
during the war and their losses were great. I believe they lost more soldiers than any other country.

4. Wow - no wonder the audience found it so powerful. I did, and it
didn't "mean" anything to me. Thanks!

5. Memories run deep in Europe about World War II
probably because it was fought on their own soil and everyone lost family members. In the U.S., the war is more history and the subject of movies. Had a major war actually been fought in our cities and towns, I think we would be less inclined to go to war. Our country's reaction to 9/11 is an indication of how naive and sheltered we can be in comparison to the rest of the world.

6. Excellent observation, Pat. I never even thought of it that way, wrapped up in
my own little American viewpoint. :headbang:

7. It all came to me over the last few years,
as I watched the stark difference in the way European countries responded to terrorism compared to the U.S. The devastation and horror of war is ingrained in their memories in ways we can't fully comprehend. The way our politicians belittled France because of its reluctance to get involved in the Iraqi invasion was appalling. We have so much to learn.
