Jim is working with Sarah Silverman today --
Edited on Tue Oct-20-09 12:56 PM by gateley
just posting that if any of you are fans.

I found it interesting that he said Weird Al Yankovic was one of the gentlest, nicest people he's worked with.

ETA He's currently working on a childrens' show called something Gaba. I only watched a second before I had to turn it off. They get special guest stars every show, so that's why he's working with such different personalities as Sarah S. and Weird Al (Just in case you wondered)

2. Sorry - I shouldn't assume everybody knows who Jim is -- he's my best friend.
Edited on Tue Oct-20-09 07:33 PM by gateley
He works in LA as a First AD.

Edit to say - guess I shouldn't assume everybody knows what a First AD is :7 -- first assistant director.

3. Thanks
That was going to be my next question - "what's an AD?" It is all clear now!

she was like to work with.

8. Just for the day yesterday, I think.
Edited on Wed Oct-21-09 02:52 PM by gateley
I forget who else he's worked with on this show - I usually only remember ones he has a comment on that I actually care about or find his comment interesting (like I thought that was really nice to hear about Weird Al -- not that I've ever given him a thought.) Apparently Devo did a show, too. I said DEVO? How OLD are they?? He said OLD!

Someone I WAS excited he worked with was Kat Von D, for some reason. I don't even watch her show, but think I like her because she's a ballsy, take-no-prisoners type of chick. I forget what he worked with her on.

He's worked with a lot of people we've heard of, and Farrah Fawcett actually called him once. When she died I said "do you still have her voicemail?" and he said uh, no, gateley, I didn't save it, and anyway that was about three phones ago.

Edit - here's Jim with Kat von D

11. Actually he's usually bitching because it's his job to run the set, make sure
Edited on Wed Oct-21-09 04:37 PM by gateley
they get the scenes shot each day that are scheduled, always be there to holler 'action' and 'roll film' and stuff -- lots of pressure, and so many people just fuck around and think it's a big party (according to him).

He did one fairly recently that has been getting rave film festival reviews (hope it gets picked up by a distributor) that had Hal Holbrook and Dixie Carter and he said that Hal would get tired easily, was pretty hard of hearing -- that was sad. :( Dixie was sweet but a Star.

But he's not a Hollywood type so he doesn't get all caught up in the celebrity aspect (which is good because I'd probably be hanging up on him a lot). He was dazzled when he first moved there and he was going 'people here realize how important it is to look good -- everybody in Seattle looks like a bum". :eyes: I complimented him on his priorities and recognizing what was really important in life!. So I went down to go to a Brian Wilson concert with him and I said "Jesus, Jim, this looks like a Grateful Dead concert, where are all the well-dressed beautiful people?" He agreed that perhaps he'd been looking through star struck eyes when he first arrived. :7 He got back to "normal" pretty quickly.

He's come to hate what he does which is ironic because he's really good at it and has developed a little reputation, so he's always working. Every job -- "I don't want to be an AD any more". We'll see.

He'll be up here next week, so I'm looking forward to that.

13. That's funny
how our first impressions of a place often don't fit our impressions later on. Sometimes it is like a totally different place. I guess we see what we're looking for.

Maybe he's ready for some new challenges. Sounds like he's in the right field.

17. Truly -- just friends, and really the best friend I've ever had.
We do have a 'history' but that was 25 years ago! If he ever DID became a celebrity, I'd keep him real. :7 I have no qualms about calling him on his bullshit -- and vice versa.

But he just called me and said his current job is over and again, he REALLY doesn't want to AD anymore. A friend and he wrote a pilot for a TV show so we'll see if anything happens with that. I hope so because I'm tired of hearing him bitch (he usually calls me almost every day so there's no escaping it!)

19. I have a really good idea for the next season of Dexter.
Does he know how I can submit it? Yikes! How self serving of me!!

Weird Al is vegan. :applause: I love him & have a DVD of his biggest hits. I really admire that kind of cleverness. I think my favorite is "It's All About the Pentium's."

Your friend's job sounds really cool. Maybe he should be a bank teller for a week before he decides to ditch this job. ;)

21. I don't know if he knows how to submit it -- but I'll ask him.
This is the first time he's gotten involved in TV (writing the script for the pilot, I mean) and I DO know that he and his friend approached a manager, went back for a re-write, and if the manager thinks he can make money off of selling it :7, then they'll go from there.

I worked with a guy once who went to USC's film school. One of their assignments was to write an episode of a TV show. He wrote the most hilarious script for Taxi (I still remember a line -- "hang on to your Slenderalls, Nardo"*). When I asked if they'd submitted it he said yeah, but one of the characters in his treatment (Jeff, I think) had already left the show, plus they didn't take work from people other than their own writers.

Anyway, I'll let you know what I find out.

*You must be of a certain age to get the reference.

22. IIRC, panyhose?
Rather, slenderizing pantyhose? I want to say Leggs brand that used to come in that egg package. Are they still around? I don't think I've worn a pair of pantyhose this century!

Does that make me 'of a certain age?'

was their Control product.

I haven't worn pantyhose since my dad's funeral in August of 1990, and before THAT it was my mom's funeral in 1988! So I'm with you!!

ETA -- I'm just thinking -- I don't even own a skirt or a dress!

:puffpiece: I just like to see Joe's group at the top as the most recently updated on the Home page. I didn't have anything to say about the topic, but you and Pat looked all lonely on the thread by yourselves so I thought it would be good to give you two (and Joe) a kick!

ON EDIT: Now, I probably should find out who/what Sarah Silverman is. I honestly haven't a clue.
