Picked up from BoRev's Titulares and Asininity post:

Freedom of Expression (Videos)

Sometimes, reading translated transcripts isn’t enough.

Here is a video,http://www.cipcol.org/?p=800, with English subtitles, of some of Colombian President Álvaro Uribe’s more heated attacks on journalists and peace activists in Colombia. In many cases, the president accuses his targets, without evidence, of supporting the FARC guerrillas. The impact on press freedom of such words, from a popular president speaking on nationally broadcast television, is immeasurably chilling.

These clips come from a somewhat longer video prepared by several non-governmental Colombian human rights groups for presentation at the March 23 hearings of the OAS Inter-American Human Rights Commission. That video - in Spanish, with clips of interviews with experts and activists - is here -- http://vimeo.com/3964962.

1. Wow! He's a dirty little Hitler. It's good to see him caught in the act.
Before this I only read about his little tirades. This is very good to have available.

Disobedient journalists="FARC intellectuals." Right!

You've probably seen a couple of posters who attack people who criticize the Colombian government and paramilitaries, actually labelling them "pro-FARC." They all sound alike. This is such a low tactic. Completely dishonest. Unadorned, witless thuggery.

There's no mistaking he is attempting to both control the press, intimidate them to the point they'll be afraid to cross him, AND to call public attention to who the particular journalists are, for the spectacle of pointing them out for the death squad scums.

What a wicked, and weak little man. He can't manage strong, effective, CLEAN, appropriate Presidential acts, he has to have the death squads at his beck and call to threaten the people into submission, instead.

So glad you posted this. Even a right-wing tool can't explain it away.

A solemn thank you. I'll absolutely keep it for files.

(Everyone knew he was trying to derail that last hostage release, just as he did earlier ones. We already know his pattern. He has NO INTEREST in allowing any of these hostages to be released alive. Nothing to gain from that, especially if someone else is handling it! As long as there is one hostage anywhere he has an automatic reason to keep holding out his soft little pudgy fingers for more U.S. taxpayers dollars to finance his little feudal kingdom, and his "war.")

4. "TeleFARC" -- I wonder how many PR consultants were needed
to come up with that one.
