1. So the State Department has appointed a team of lawyers to determine if the coup is a coup
and to help Hillary and friends "understand what we're supposed to understand."

QUESTION: And then just one other quick question, following up on Juan Vasquez’s* question about what constitutes a military coup. Are we to understand, then, that when civilian institutions use the military to perform a coup, that then is not designated a military coup?

SENIOR STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL ONE: No, we’re not necessarily to understand that. We’re waiting for our lawyers to help us to understand what we’re supposed to understand.

-----------------------

Btw, golpista El Heraldo reporting today that Llorens will NOT rpt NOT be returning to Tegucigalpa. Do not know whether this has been reported by the AP or any other media.

2. Interesting news. Thanks, rabs! I wonder if this means
the US is cutting off diplomatic relations--not likely, I think--and if not, who are they gonna send? John Negroponte?

Sorry. Couldn't help myself. On the other hand, it really would not surprise me.

3. Heard on Radio Globo tonight

that El Heraldo's report that Llorens will NOT be returning has NOT been confirmed.

This is what El Heraldo is saying on its website:

Trascendió que el embajador Hugo Llorens, quien dejó el país hace unas semanas, no regresará a Honduras por disposición del departamento de Estado.

(It transcended that Amb. Llorens, who left the country some weeks back, will not return to Honduras by order of the State Department.)

"Trascendió" is a journalistic trick in Spanish to attribute something to someone without naming the source.

Maybe Llorens has a lot of "vacation" left and that will delay his return

4. Sure hope the press will opt to keep at the State Department spokespeople on what's a coup.
Looks as if they got into terrain which was making someone very uncomforable. They need to press onward.

Thanks for the Llorens news. He'd probably rather quit than to go back, anyway, considering the people can't stand him, and the coup personel don't like him, either.

As Peace Patriot mentioned, we couldn't be too shocked if they simply slid Negroponte back under the door of his old office at the embassy, the same place where "Death Squad John" distinguished himself already.
