the Carter Center. They've got USAID-funded rightwing groups "monitoring" this election. The junta sent a letter to all the mayors to turn in LISTS of names and addresses of those opposing the election. The election is being run by the Honduran military, which is also enforcing a "state of emergency" on the country in which civil rights do not exist.
If Obama endorses the results of this phony election--and he appears to be preparing to do so--he is finished in Latin America. That's what the Bushwhacks who engineered this coup wanted, of course--to completely sabotage him and his stated policy of "peace, respect and cooperation." But Obama seems to be a willing toady to their dark schemes, including not just this, but the secretly negotiated Colombia/Pentagon agreement for SEVEN new US military bases in Colombia--creating an incendiary situation that could well result in a war. He needs to change his mind about endorsing the Honduran election, but I have almost no hope that he will. Chavez said that Obama is "the prisoner of the Pentagon." And he is probably right.
