Colombia's Katrina, to the Nth power

Government figures: An estimated 80,000,000 cubic meters are pouring into the low-lying areas of northern Alantica department EVERY DAY, with no end in sight. Water is from the mighty Magdalena River that flows north to the Atlantic Ocean.

1.5 MILLION people have been displaced.

Entire town have had to be evacuated.

No electricity, potable water. Food shipments to the region disrupted.

Over 300,000 families affected. Nearly 700 municipalities flooded.

Government consulting U.S. Corps of Engineers to try to plug the huge break in the highway dike. Break occurred almost two weeks ago.

Government doing what it can, but it will be weeks or months before region dries out.
