FARC turns over 8 hostages to Red Cross

(CNN) -- The International Committee of the Red Cross announced Thursday that it arranged for the release Wednesday of eight civilians held for a week by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

The handover of the eight Colombians, who were abducted July 17, occurred in a rural area of Vigia del Fuerte in the northwestern part of Colombia and "was done completely independently," said Yves Heller, a spokesman for the ICRC in Bogota.

Heller said no Colombian military were involved in the release.

"The operation took place, thanks to a confidential dialogue that the ICRC has with the FARC," he said.

1. Bombing the FARC camp the other day probably helped persuade them
Perhaps bombing a few more FARC camps will get more hostages released.

5. Some people just hate what they are told to hate. Hopefully
they will get an update soon so their heads don't explode.

6. It's just a matter of time, isn't it? "FARC lovers!" It was only a short time ago they opened up
both barrels on the Swiss, when a Swiss radio station released information that Colombia had secretly given money to the FARCs for hostage release earlier.

Called the Swiss "FARC lovers," too. That one had to be a first. A ground breaking effort for the sophisticated Colombian government.

No doubt the winger, Joe McCarthy, dead from alcoholism, is sobbing with gratitude in his grave, proud to know mouth-breathing, knuckle draggers are hard at work, trying to label every non-fascist as a FARC (commie, of course) lover.

8. Have you no sense of shame?
Don't you have any shame for continuing to spread FUD?

"...when a Swiss radio station released information that Colombia had secretly given money to the FARCs for hostage release earlier..."

You take a never-substantiated report from an unknown source, and you continue to try to spin it into the truth. For someone who constantly disparages MSM reporting, it's quite disturbing to watch you take whatever rumor that fits your agenda and constantly repeat the rumor, as if bombastic rhetoric will turn the rumor into reality.

And you have had numerous opportunities to acknowledge and condemn FARC atrocities, but have yet to respond. Yet you have no reluctance to smear those that recognize FARC as criminal narcoterrorists as pro-AUC and "filthy" Uribe supporters.

You should look into the mirror before climbing aboard your high horse and issuing your smug and patronizing declarations. There are a number of posters and readers in this forum that have an accurate perspective of ground truth, and they don't necessarily agree with your views.

they are a scurge on Colombia. its amazing that country is even close to where it is today given all their problems. why there are those who can't acknowledge the FARC is equally as horrendous is beyond me. well, at least the Colombians have an accurate picture. all those "peasants" aren't as stupid as some would have us believe.

here is a "typical" Colombian as perceived by many DU latin american experts. we'll call him Juan Valdez pictured next to Ven. president Hugo Chavez.

10. Absolutely they are a scourge
And Uribe is hardly an angel, but there have been changes for the good in Colombia. What's disturbing is that a lot of that criminality is migrating south to Ecuador, and yet Correa doesn't seem to want to recognize the threat and work cooperatively with his neighbor to address the problem.

But it's truly unfortunate that those that pontificate so loudly about events in South America have never been there.
