was promptly sacked by Mr. Kirchner: absent other evidence, limited available coverage suggests that Uberti allowed Antonini on the plane because Antonini asked for a lift. That seems to eliminate culpability in the money-smuggling for anyone else on the plane
There certainly is a lot of lying in this case, by Antonini in particular. Airport security has testified Antonini gave multiple, conflicting answers about suitcase contents. Antonini later claimed the suitcase wasn't his, not what he told airport officials at the time of the cash discovery. Following confiscation of the money, Antonini was briefly detained and released, after which he disappeared. Press reported he fled to Uruguay, but he called a paper claiming he had switched his cell-phone coverage to Buenos Aires. He later testified he had visited friends in Uruguat before returning to Miami. It is at least curious that one of those accused by the US is Uruguayan
