I only just heard about this on Sunday even though it happened just after Obama's election. The mother of my godson and goddaughter lives in Chicago and is a Democrat. After Obama's election she bought many copies of the Chicago Tribune with the big headline and front page about the victory. She gave me one for Christmas in 2008 and gave others copies also.

She had about 10 copies left so she took out an ad on craigslist offering them to those who wanted them, preferably military since her son is in the Army. She was overwhelmed with email, hate email. She said that he ad got flagged so many times after it was posted that it was pulled 4 times. Her ad had no ideology, but simply here are the papers and would they please be for those in the military.

I realize that a lot of this was probably racism as well as ideology. As many as there are those who hated Bush, I wonder if there would be Democrats who would do the same thing in such numbers about the offer of free papers announcing a Bush victory? I would hope that as a party we could be better than that, but after reading some of the stuff here at DU I am not sure that would be as true as I might like it to be.

(I told her that she should have offered the papers here at DU and there would be those who made sure they went to the military. She still does have the papers.)
