Reid Announces Senate Dem Attendees For White House Health Care Summit

Reid Announces Senate Dem Attendees For White House Health Care Summit

Rachel Slajda

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid this afternoon announced which Senate Democrats will attend the bipartisan health care summit at the White House this Thursday.

Reid will attend, joined by Sens. Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer, Patty Murray, Max Baucus, Chris Dodd, Tom Harkin, Jay Rockefeller and Kent Conrad.

The White House invited Democratic and Republican leadership in both houses, and allowed the leaders to invite a handful of colleagues.

<...>

"The President's health reform proposal brings together the best of the Senate bill and the best of the House bill in a fiscally responsible way," he said in a statement.

4. Dump Baucus and Conrad. Add Ron Wyden and Sherrod Brown.
Baucus and Conrad are among the worst of the appeasers who put us in this mess in the first place.

5. Does everyone realize that this isn't a
suggestion box?

Conrad supports reconciliation and is chairman of the Budget Committee. Durbin, Schumer, Murray, Dodd, Harkin and Rockefeller all support a strong public option.

15. Yeah that sorta the way Rahm feels about any suggestions from those
"f****** Ret****"" we call liberals. Bacchus and Corad have botched everything so far. That is the equivelent of two more GOP voices.

23. Baucus and Conrad got us into this mess.
They should be excluded for that reason.

But the Senate/WH "leadership" seems to have no shame.

They also hope we will forget.

But we won't.

27. Not to mention, Durbin and Schumer are in the party leadership,
Harkin and Dodd, are the two top Democrats on HELP. Baucus is the chair of Finance. Rockefeller, the second ranking member of the Finance committee and the chair of the Finance sub-committee on heath. Conrad is also the third ranking member of the Finance committee. (I can't as easily explain Murray, who is on the HELP committee and chairs Subcommittee on Employment and Workplace Safety. (Following the pattern, Mikulski, the third ranking HELP Senator would have been more predictable.)

We must all accept the decisions of Democrats without question, all of the time!

6. I could go with that.
Wyden and Brown are real public servants, with integrity.

Still...Reid couldn't really exclude the Chairs of the budget and finance committee no matter how much we would want him to.

Baucus and Conrad aren't my favs, but they're as entitled to be there as anyone else.

Bring it on!

the payoffs from their corporate masters.

be on the panel as anyone else, and they're on the Finance committee.

22. there are 100 Senators and none of them are "entitled" to be appointed to anything
And these "appointees" do not have to be from the Finance Commitee.

They ones who've been on the front lines for a year trying to get something passed --whether you agree with their plan or not -- are deserve to be part of the discussion, whether you like it or not.

21. It's the leadership, plus the chairs of the relevant committees, plus 4 others
Reid and Durbin are the Majority Leader and Democratic Whip (their Republican counterparts will also be there). Baucus, Dodd, and Harkin all chaired or currently chaired the relevant committees that created the bill. (Their Republican counterparts will also be there).

Schumer, Murray, Rockefeller, and Conrad are the add-ons.
