Utah gov's Dem challenger narrows fundraising gap
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Peter Corroon is closing in on Republican Gov. Gary Herbert's fundraising lead.

Corroon has raised more than $360,000 since his campaign announcement in January, bringing his total through March to more than $730,000.

Herbert has raised nearly $1.5 million through January, but his most recent financial disclosure report shows he had spent more than $500,000 by the end of December.

Herbert's fundraising has been hindered by a state law prohibiting contributions to state lawmakers and the governor while the Legislature is in session. Herbert's campaign can't raise any money until Thursday - the day after the veto deadline.

1. If only he could narrow the polling gap.

Though this race will probably be the closest governor's election since 1988, when former Salt Lake Mayor Ted Wilson, a Democrat, almost beat incumbent Norm Bangerter. Unfortunately, that just means it won't be a 30-point blowout like we're used to. I'm still thinking Herbert wins by 10-15 points.

2. I am afraid you are correct.
It's an unfortunate truth. I really like Pete Carroon, but his main problem is the D after his name. It just does not fly is this state.

3. Jesus could run as a D and lose.
And this is only a close election because no one likes Herbert. But instead of giving a Democrat a chance, they'd rather just re-elect him and bitch the next three or so years.
