If it gets down to Crist or Rubio and Meek can't win
I think the Democrats should hold their noses and vote for Crist. It has been obvious for some time that Crist is not a typical Republican.

His major "crime" according to the baggers was that he hugged Obama and supported the stimulus.

If the Senate gets down to one or two seats, Crist caucusing with the Dems would be pretty crucial.

1. So it is Republican batshit crazy or just Republican crazy...
So I guess Democrats have decided to set this election out.

I'm amazed.

2. So youi would rather have a tea bagger?
Crist is not a Republican anymore. He is a pragmitist. He would be more of a conservative Democrat like Spector, or Bayh.

Politics is kind of like tic tac toe. Sometimes you have to go for the block.

Righties also hate Crist because he does not hate gays.

3. Especially if he ended-up caucusing with the Dems... I don't see him
running back into the arms of the people who stabbed him in the back.

13. But that wasn't your argument.
Nobody's disputing whether or not Crist is somewhat less of a piece of shit than Marco "If only I could bring Batista back from Hell" Rubio. I'm just saying to count him as a "Democrat" or assume he would caucus "with the Democrats" is a mistake. Crist might be a slightly better governor than Jeb Bush, but he's hardly on our side.

9. He was elected as a conservative Repulbican...
Edited on Thu May-06-10 11:05 AM by Ozymanithrax
He governed as a conservative Republican...

Suddenly, he finds out he can't get elected because a sufficient number of batshit crazy Republicans don't think he meets the racist litmus test, so he calls himself an Independent.

Other than the way he spells "Conservative Republican" what has changed?

The only difference between Crist and Lieberman is that Crist has a better rating as a conservative.

Back in the 90's, here in California, Republicans ran a successful recall of a liberal democrat. Then, in the election, they had a Republican change to a Democrat and run as a Democrat.

Wink! Wink! Nudge! Nudge! We knew what the fuck he was.

Crist is a conservative Republican and will remain a conservative Republican/Independent. You will get what you vote for. Any Democrat who votes for Crist because they are creaming their jeans at the idea that Rubio will get elected is voting for a conservative Republican.

This is an ideal situation for a Democrat in a slightly conservative state. Get two crazy ass Republicans to run against each other and split the ticket. Why is it that Meek can not get enough Floridian Democrats to vote for him to push him over the top?

11. Because he is a S. Florida Congressman that has not made much of a name
for himself...

An unknown quantity is not such a bad thing in a race like this though if he has the skill to spin that in his favor.

14. I hope he can. In a race that splits the Republican party he can win...
as long as Democrats vote for him.

4. Shurrr, vote for the republican..just cause he changed his
affiliation doesn't mean he isn't a republican. Any kind of republican is worse than a Democrat..instead, work to get Meek elected.

6. I said support Meek until it is clear she can't win.
Just like the Nader voters in Florida should have voted for Gore, instead of electing G.W. Bush in 2000.

Nader"s 90,000 Florida votes made Bush president.

Crist is MILES better than Rubio.

18. What makes people think Crist will caucus with Democrats?
Voters should demand Crist tell them who he is going to caucus with. He has to caucus with one of the parties.

22. There are a number of reasons..
The GOPers are already trashing him and have essentially thrown him out of the party. McConnel has even threatened to not let him caucus with the Dems even if he wanted to. Expect even more ugliness from the GOPers as we near election day. It will probably get so nasty that Crist may not have a choice but go with the Dems.

Crist has already opened the door by NOT saying who he would caucus with now. He even tried to call the WH which I suspect was an "offer" to see what he might get in return for his vote.

Also, I think Crist is not all that far from being a Democrat.. he is left of many of our current Blue Dogs.

I may be wrong but if I was a betting guy, I would bet a truck load of Florida oranges that Crist will win and will caucus with the Dems.

19. Kendrick Meek has my vote and my $ contributions. Based on the
fact it seems you don't even know he is a man, (Maybe you're thinking of his mother) you should take a few minutes b4 your next exhortation for Chain Gang Charlie and familiarize yourself with Representative Meek's voting record.

21. Crist is already pulling Dem support from Meek even from Dems who were already supporting Meek
The latest polling shows it clearly...

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections2/election_2010/election_2010_senate_elections/florida/toplines/toplines_florida_senate_may_3_2010

Crist's numbers went up at the expense of both Meek and Rubio from polls taken before and after his announcement. There have also been numerous "on-the-groud" reports from FL Dems that many are ready to dump Meek for Crist for various reasons but mainly because they like Crist's gutsy moderate approach on issues and recent veto of GOP school bill effectively thumbing his nose at Jeb Bush and other FL GOPers and because they think Crist can win.

I also have a feeling Crist may begin to go more left on some of his viewpoints.. eg women's rights, environment, gay-rights, off-shore oil, etc. Then many many more will jump from Meek to Crist.

I also believe Crist will caucus with the Dems because he may not have any choice after the way the GOPers are trashing him. McConnel is already saying they might no let Crist caucus with them even if he wanted to.

I suspect it will become crystal clear what FL Dems should do as we near election day.

I've never believed Meek has a chance in this race.

24. Voters "personally liking" a candidate is often enough to win an election...
Clearly Crist has that. I think his approvals are near 60%.
