Crist, a newly-minted independent, is drawing strong support from Democrats and African-American voters. Trouble for him is, that may be only temporary.
Fully 40 percent of voters say they still don’t know who Kendrick Meek is, and Coker said as Meek’s profile rises, those Democratic and African-American voters are likely to gravitate toward him. Meek, a Congressman from South Florida, is the likely Democratic nominee and is African-American.
“When you see that more than half of Crist voters are Democrats, that’s a big red warning sign,” said Coker.
Former House Speaker Marco Rubio appears well on his way to locking up the Republican vote. He’s capturing about 70 percent of the GOP, while Crist is getting 18 percent and Meek is getting 3 percent.
Among Democratic voters, 48 percent favor Crist, 36 percent support Meek and 4 percent back Rubio.
