Why We Are Not Amused - Nor Listening
It seems that every time I see footage of Teabaggers, or hear them interviewed, they seem bewildered that the vast majority of the citizenry is not listening to their message and swelling their ranks.

So I thought I’d end the befuddlement, and spell it out for them.

You chose the name Teabaggers. After the hilarity ensued, you finally figured out what the term meant. Instead of simply changing your moniker and moving on, you blamed the left-wing media (as though such a thing existed) for having coined the phrase in an attempt to embarrass you. Ergo, you are liars – and the vast majority of Americans do not wish to be associated with liars.

You gather together and rant incessantly about government spending currently being out of control. You were silent when the previous administration squandered the surplus they’d inherited, plundered the treasury, and ran up the nation’s debt to unprecedented heights. Most Americans recognize that closing the barn door after the horse is long gone is, to put it bluntly, an exercise in insanity, as well as futility.

You are adamant about the government keeping “their hands off” programs, like Medicare, that have always been government-run. Most Americans know the difference between programs that are run by the government and those that aren’t. Your position gives them the impression that you don’t know what the f*ck you’re whining about – and they’re right in their assessment.

You look ridiculous – no, really, you just do. You show up at your poorly-attended events dressed like idiots, and believe in your own self-importance because the mainstream media covers your gatherings. Did it ever occur to you that part of the reason you get wide coverage is because you look like idiots – and oogling a bunch of teabag-festooned jerks will draw a TV audience anxious to guffaw at the end of a workday? Most Americans don’t want their allotted fifteen minutes of fame to be a YouTube video showing them wearing a few dozen teabags on their hat, or Size 6 American-flag stretch-pants trying to contain a Size 18 ass.

You can’t spell, punctuate, or put together a coherent sentence on your protest placards. Ignorance of proper English is not the problem here; the problem is the fact that you take pride in such ignorance, and castigate those who can grasp the language for being snobbish “elitists”. Most Americans don’t want to be seen as stupid – much fewer of them want to be seen as wallowing in stupidity as though it were a badge of honor.

You are bigots and homophobes, and your words and actions prove it on a daily basis. Most Americans (I know this comes as a shock, so steady yourselves) are NOT.

You rail against the intrusion of government into the everyday lives of citizens. And yet when Arizona recently passed a law that encourages the enforcement thereof to be predicated on intrusion into the lives of citizens – by insisting they be able to “prove” their citizenship at any given moment, in even the most casual of circumstances – you were nowhere to be found. Most Americans against government over-reaching DON’T mean “unless your skin color is darker than mine, in which case you are to be considered ‘less American’ than the next guy.”

You are obsessed with the message that you are being over-taxed – despite the fact that your taxes have been lowered under the Obama administration. Most Americans choose to inform themselves before decrying a situation which doesn’t even exist.

And last, but certainly not least – on top of your abject stupidity, your ignorance of how the government works and what it funds, your propensity to argue “facts” not in evidence, and your inability to speak/think coherently – you don’t even have the intellectual wherewithal to discern the difference between participating in a “grassroots movement” and being played by those with a political agenda that is diametrically opposed to your own best interests.

Despite what may sometimes appear to be the case, most Americans just aren’t as dumb as you are.

I hope that clears things up.

Ridiculous in a scary kind of way, I mean.

The Baggers don't deserve an evaluation this well written, even if it is deadly accurate.

Nice goin', Nance.

Of course, I am surrounded by Teabagger types. I really, really hope that is not a reflection of the rest of the nation. Polls say that it's not the case, but it's hard to believe the polls when you have to interact with people like this every freakin' day.

61. Same here.
I often wonder if there are ONLY tea-baggers here in mid-MO.
LTTE, Comment forums, etc.
Teabag gathering was even held in the local school gym when the rain forced their meeting indoors.
Lots of flack about that, there are a few progressives here.

I guess that the forums are full of business people, mid-day posting and all.
So, it's either unemployed, owners or people with too much time on their hands.(that's me)

The level of stupidity here is unbelievable. Anti-union, anti-worker idiots can't understand why the economy is so bad.

I keep asking who should be responsible for paying the war-debt...no answer forthcoming, ever.

Go figure, eh?

I stopped watching TV a few months ago, gave it up for Lent and really never turned back. No cable news, it has been great.

I haven't read anything on the Tea baggers in a while...they endorsed the local GOP candidate for congress who is pro-choice over their own candidate in the primary. I just figured they have folded back into where they came from, which was the Republican party.

I see the GOP making a comeback in my area and polling better, but the TEA party candidate that opposed the moderate in the 15th district in the primary got abandoned by the Tea party 2 weeks ago.

You should take a look at Pat Toomey or some of the other GOP candidates in the fall, I think these people's time in the spotlight has passed, not telling you what to write, but I think these guys have folded back to where they came from and have made up with the GOP.

sit down and talk to my wife in the living room while she's watching tv, but I don't really watch it. And news? It appears most news is made up. Glad to have you back AllentownJake. I, too, took HCR hard and am now realizing the beginning of the pain it will cause structurally, ie, copays, refusal of referrals, etc. I pay no attention to the teabaggers either; they get most of their notoriety via well-meaning posts on bulletin boards. I am following two things closely now: the oil disaster and the Kagan nomination. I wish I could get better news regarding the first as I don't believe anyone about anything. On the second, I prefer no news at all because I already have a bad stomach. Anyway, good to see you posting again.

Edited on Wed May-12-10 10:03 AM by AllentownJake
I'm going to start looking at local newspapers from the region.

There are 3 parties that don't want to talk about this.

1) The political class, since both parties embraced this project and are responsible for the disaster.

2) The media class, because BP does a significant amount of business with the media class in the form of advertising revenue.

3) The corporate class, because they have fought so hard against regulation in belief of this fictional self regulatory market.

The locals will tell the real story.

It has been good to be back, it appears the sane are running the asylum here again and the thought police have been pushed down by the membership, as is what should happen.

In PA they are a non-entity...I could care what the crazy parts of the west and south does, I assume their representatives are morons before they open their mouths, generally without even considering party affiliation.

So of course they need to blame others. I heard a conservative on the radio in the car talking about how rude and inappropriate it was for President Obama to refer to them as teabaggers because after all the teabaggers had refrained from calling him the N word.

Hilarious. It's like they are dog-paddling in their own bullshit and can't make it out of the pool.

In order to be a liar, one has to understand the truth. The misrepresentation of information requires the comprehension of that information and the teabaggers are simply not up to that challenge. In short--as you have throughly and eloquently pointed out--they are simply too stupid to lie.

50. Does anyone have ironclad evidence of them choosing the name "teabaggers" for themselves?
I'm ideally looking for a link that I can send to the next teabagger who uses the "that's just a name the librul media invented to ridicule us" line. Something totally unambiguous that they can't claim was "taken out of context".

I'm probably fighting a losing battle here, since these people are adept at creating their own reality, but it's worth a shot. I thought this photo would do it, but even that wasn't enough to convince one teabagger of my aquaintance that the word "teabagger" wasn't something imposed on them by the mean old media, the same elitists that delight in asking Sarah (PBUH) gotcha questions like "what newspapers do you read?"

As a general rule, any sentence with more than one or two commas goes right over their heads.

60. Extremely well spoken Ms Nance
We see and don't see.We hear and don't hear.Teabaggers to me are like the most ridiculous people in the world. They have let Freedomworks/Dick Armey,Heritage foundtion,Citizens for Prosperity, and like entities cloud their racist empty heads with poppycock. They have the nerve to consider anyone who has an education beyond Jethro bodine, an elitist. When I was growing up not having an education was one way to surly end up on the low wage scale of life. Now having an education makes you an elitist. So therefore, being a teabagger must make you a simpletonist. Okay its not a word, but it fits.Smile. Great Op:applause: :applause: :applause:

73. Despite what may sometimes appear to be the case, most Americans just aren’t as dumb as you are.
Unfortunately, the majority of those Americans that aren't dumb put Bush in Office to second time. The first time was a crooked Supreme Court that Americans citizens failed to protest and take to the streets to demand a fair counting of all the votes.

Look how many millions of supposedly educated Americans voted for McCain and Palin. I don't know of any politician that was a unqualified as Palin. To think she actually had a chance to be a heart beat away from the presidency is more than scary. As I have pointed out numerous times the vast majority of the working class have actively cooperated in their own economic suicide and continue to do so by electing Republican slim bags that facilitate the out-sourcing of their jobs. Unfortunately, they have been join by a number of Democrats who are also just pawns of their corporate masters.

It appears that we may be in for another case of these "dumb Americans" putting Democrats out of office and electing Republicans and strangling the Obama Administration's proposals in the cradle. The Republicans don't have a monopoly on stupid as has been demonstrated time and time again on this board by those attacking him and saying they aren't going to vote. No, the Teabaggers certainly don't have an exclusive claim to being stupid.

75. They are perfect examples of the Drones working in sector 7G
They do what they are told to do by their Corporate masters, simply because they don't have any other skills to fall back on, and there pitiful income is all they have to live for in the world. Threaten that, and they'll do anything they are told to protect there myopic worldview at any cost.

Even if it means going out into the world and showing the masses what idiots they are. As long as they are paid, they couldn't care less. After all, it's what they have been told to do, and everyone else is doing it right?

As far as spelling and grammer, or the ability to construct normal sentances in english, they are typical of the majority of Americans raised in an educational system where "Fighting is sometimes necessary" to maintain social status, or to conform with all the other cattle in order to survive. Education is a secondary effect, but not a high priority for these people. They have just enough skill to make it through life partially supervised. But when that supervision goes away, they break down like the kids in the Lord of the Flies.

It's ok, let them burn brightly, for they will flame out quickly.

The powers that be are extremely smart and secretive. They go out of their way to distance themselves from the spotlight, and slow burning embers last a lot longer.

While it's fun to poke at the Teabaggers, rant at the stupidity of the Government, I'm afraid that it is all for naught unless we can find a way to remove the ultimate power from the Powers That Be, and that only Power is the pursuit of money by the masses. The masses have been uneducated in the ways of providing for themselves, and are now totally dependant on Money/Wages to survive. The Corporations really don't depend on quality products or services anymore, just consumption, simply because they are just another face of the Bankster/Military Industrial Complex/Government/Insurance class that can print money out of thin air to get things done.

People must stop consuming for a prolonged period of time until the Enron style accounting can no longer hide the collapse in the current system from the shareholders. People must stop enlisting in the Military. People must stop taking out loans. People must learn to simplify in order to see how many essential things has already been taken away from us.

That is when we will have the power to effect real change.

79. Tea baggers? This is about as substantive as talking about Palin

The worst oil disaster in the history of our nation, Obama (not the teabaggers or Palin) expands off shore drilling, and we are still playing into this back and forth partisan bs.

We need to hold our own party to account. It is our democratic President who expanded the war in Afghanistan.

Not the teabaggers.

It is President Obama who expanded oil drilling of the coast, NOT the tea-baggers.

It is President Obama who just appointed an unqualified court nominee who agreed with LINDSEY GRAHAM on terrorist detention policy, and argued under Clinton to ban late abortion policies.

It is under this democratic Congress that health insurance reform passed that reduced women's access to abortions.

Why all this droning about tea-baggers?

Just distraction from the real political problems democrats face when we have no real party representation.

88. To understand the "Tea-baggers" you must understand
Racism! That is what drives their contrived "outrage". As you post pointed out, they were not concerned about government spending until a Black man got into the White House. You'll never understand where their outrage comes from, unless you accept the fact that 99% of the "Tea-Baggers" are bigots. Then their outrage becomes crystal clear.

96. the sad thing is
that diversity is so wonderful, and the teabaggers don't get that.

And in another generation or two, we will have blended so much that there will be
much less diversity, and I will miss that.

I guess I am one of those silly people that enjoys being around people who are
different from myself.

92. You say truth.
While I was out in public yesterday, a teabagger chose to lecture me on the ills of society. According to him, windmills are ugly and will never become efficient sources of energy, left-wing radicals blew up the oil rig in the Gulf, the only way for America to have a decent standard of living is to allow unrestricted oil drilling near shore, people who want to save the planet are short sighted, selfish, and have no compassion for future generations, and Obama is the evilest person who has ever come near the Presidency: a socialist, a communist, and here he stopped for breath, trying to find a way to express himself without cussing.

I excused myself, telling him that I had to go back to work. He urged me to "Think about what I said." I've been thinking about it ever since. I think he's a dangerous loon.

99. I like to wind them screwballs up.. get 'em goin'.
Frankly, I'm sort of good at it. I can get just about anybody goin'. All you gotta do is tell 'em the simple truth. Drives 'em wild. I'm hopin' to get 'em so wound up on the truth they go home and drop dead from it. Folks who are so mean-spirited and evil ought not to be around anymore.

Incidently.. did you EVER hear of a bigot who admitted to it? Not me. They always get real apoplectic and rant about how they're NOT prejudiced.. they're not a bigot.. etc. I like it when they turn purple and the veins stick out up on their forehead. You can almost see the smoke curlin' up off their head. Hee hee hee. The sweat runs down off 'em. They start to shake, spum, sputter, gnash their teeth. Then I'm there calmly chuckling and patronizing them like the cranky babies they are. The real goofy ones try to attack me..

Then I kick the crap out of them.

I thank the military for teaching me how to defend myself from those who disrespect the Constitution by preaching racist hate and by attacking innocent old men like me for speaking the mere truth.

94. Not listening is one thing that's for certain
Edited on Thu May-13-10 03:42 AM by depakid
Incapability of listening is one of the things that makes a person emotionally and intellectually deaf- -tone deafness sometimes showing itself first as a symptom.

I hope in some respects, that clears some things up.

Because when one looks at a broader picture- it does indeed explain a lot.
