What Obama is doing about the BP oil spill
One easy way to see what the US government is doing to coordinate its response to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill is by looking at the Joint Information Center Twitter account. For those who are so busy complaining about the lack of responsiveness, it might be helpful to see what is actually being done and the number of coordinated federal, state, and local responses in coordination with businesses, media, and residents of the area.

1. But if they take the time to look at what's being done ...
... that could seriously interfere with their allotted complaining time.

Just sayin' ...

2. Exactly! They're TWITTERING about it! And a lot, too!
Edited on Sun May-23-10 09:45 PM by smalll
If that's not action, I don't know what is!

If they could just back it up with a bunch of Facebook updates, and the occasional Youtube video, my mind will be totally at ease!

That Obama give updates and reassurances.

12. Are the sources embedded reporters?
Edited on Sun May-23-10 10:06 PM by cornermouse
Seriously, given the confrontation between unembedded reporters and the Coast Guard who was following orders from BP's people, do you think I'm going to believe anything embedded reporters say?

One full day and 2 partial days of listening to how many residents of the Gulf? Pretty skimpy.

More importantly, is Obama going to give BP a deadline and enforce it? Because that is what I want to hear from Obama. A deadline and a list of penalties and sanctions, not excluding prison time and fines, in addition to full payment of all expenses for stopping and cleaning up the disaster. Oddly enough, I don't think that's too much to expect from the President.

Memo to media: Timeline contradicts "Obama's Katrina" claim

April 20 (10 p.m.): Oil rig explosion. An April 21 ABCNews.com article reported, "An overnight explosion in the Gulf of Mexico rocked the Deepwater Horizon oil rig off the Louisiana coast, sending spectacular bursts of flame into the sky. The fires were still raging today." The U.S. Coast Guard's National Oil and Hazardous Substances Response System assigns primary responsibility for cleaning up oil spills to the spiller as the responsible party.

April 21: Deputy Secretary of Interior, Coast Guard dispatched to region. An April 22 White House statement noted that following a briefing with President Obama, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Thad Allen, Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe, and FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate, "Deputy Secretary of the Interior David Hayes was dispatched to the region yesterday to assist with coordination and response." The Coast Guard announced that four units were responding to the fire, with additional units en route.

more...lots more...

17. No independent reporting means questionable information.
Embedding reporters within the borders of the U.S.?
Encounter between unembedded CBS reporters and a Coast Guard boat and BP employees in which BP threatened the CBS reporters with arrest.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/19/bp-coast-guard-officers-b_n_581779.html
When CBS tried to film a beach with heavy oil on the shore in South Pass, Louisiana, a boat of BP contractors, and two Coast Guard officers, told them to turn around, or be arrested.

"This is BP's rules, it's not ours," someone aboard the boat said. Coast Guard officials told CBS that they're looking into it.

And your post has ...what... to do with I said? Right. Exactly nothing.

18. Get over yourself. I'm sorry I didn't see your name, because I know
why you're here. I threw that out there, and of course you bit, because that's what you do, anything negative, you are like a rabid dog.

So sorry I was responding to 'you'. Ugh.
