Senate Candidate Kirk (R-IL): 'Misremembered It Wrong', referring to lies about military service
Kirk: 'Misremembered It Wrong'

By CQ-Roll Call Staff | June 4, 2010 8:17 AM | Permalink | Comments (0)

Rep. Mark Kirk (R) explains to the Chicago Sun-Times how a big award for a unit he headed came to be called an award just for him.

"I simply misremembered it wrong," Kirk, who's running for the Senate, said of the "Intelligence Officer of the Year" award.

"I want to be very contrite and say there is a casualness with which I sometimes describe military details," Kirk told the newspaper's editorial board. "And if it gave the impression that my military record is larger than it was, I want to apologize."

"This has hurt me when it was absolutely unnecessary," he said.

1. Trying hard to understand
and having the most difficult time in wrapping my mind around this line:

"I simply misremembered it wrong," Kirk, who's running for the Senate, said of the "Intelligence Officer of the Year" award.

"Intelligence" apparently doesn't mean what I thought it meant (and yes, for those who didn't understand my tongue in cheek statement, I do understand the award is for the other type of intelligence.)

6. Wouldn't that be "remembered it wrong Or to use Bush's made up word, simply misremembered it ?
Getting an individual award from the Navy is very very different than getting a unit award from an outside organization. This was also not an off the cuff comment years later, it was on his official biography on his official House web site.

2. "Misremembered it wrong."
"Of course, I simply misremembered it wrong. What I MEANT to say was that I killed fifty Viet Cong, they took my shins, then they made me their chief."
