4. How hilarious that I had not heard anything about his approval at 52%.
I figured it was at 45% or something since all the talk was about "being worse then Katrina" crap.

14. Actually I've heard more media stories on Obama;s low polls (even in the last week)
that I heard of Bush's when he was in the 30s.

10. Intresting
This suggests ABC/Washington Post polling has Obama keeping most of his voters In overall Approval.

He polls best on handling the Economy. He has taken hit on reaction to Oil Spill and the Budget Deficit. But listening to MSM
you would think noone approves of his handling when they have his disaaprol only high than approval of the Oil spill byy 5 points.

They have Democrats with 3 point lead In generic ballet but more Intresting low approl of congress as hole but people approving of their own congressman 49 to 44.We could be headed for election where people don't like congres as a whole but reelect their own
congressman for the most part.

Democrats have a 12 point lead among Republicans as better party.

Of course all the MSM will Ignore this poll.Despite the fact this Isn't exactly a Liberal organization doing the poll.

11. Hmmmm...
Congressional Job Approval
26% Approve, 71% Disapprove (chart)
Your own representative: 49% Approve, 44% Disapprove

Once again, this backs up the idea that Congress is a good boogeyman. People always hate "Congress" in general, but they tend to be much less angry about their own individual reps. Which is why I'm still not sure if the anti-incumbent mood means doom for Dems. Because people hate incumbents, yes, but they often hate incumbents that they themselves don't vote for. It's those OTHER incumbents - the ones in other states and districts - that they want to remove from office. But can't.

November definitely will be interesting.

12. "Country on the wrong track" numbers are plummeting
While it's still a majority (60%-37%), it's waaaaay lower than it was 18 months ago, just before Obama took office (83%-16%).

16. Still above 50% though
And considering what he's been battling, that's nothing short of remarkable. By all rights he should be much lower, since he hasn't had any artificial approval boosters (like Bush and, sadly, 9/11 - and starting a war). Obama is still pulling in pretty damn good numbers when you look at all the crises he's been hit with.

Really, I see numbers like these and really am astounded. And pleased. Nice to know that as incessant as the media drumbeat of "His numbers are plummeting! Woe to the Democrats!" have been, they haven't been successful at swaying the American people. Thank God they've made themselves so ridiculous (thank you, Fox News, for that, at least). I really think people these days in general figure if the press says one thing, we should clearly believe the opposite.

19. The Right Track/Wrong Direction is the scary one
The President is wearing Teflon Skivvies.

But Congress is really in the crapper. and that is where outrage will come home to roost in November. The anger out there is withering. largely misplaced but withering nonetheless

Edited on Tue Jun-08-10 10:07 AM by Politics_Guy27
Reagan and Clinton had both plummeted to the mid to low 40s by this time. For President Obama to be at 52% this far into his term with all that is going on is INCREDIBLE and gives me real hope. The fact that we have a generic ballot lead rocks as well. It is a testament to the bond that this president has formed with the American people. Never underestimate just how much they like him personally.

23. I think Obama will be a 2-term president
There's that saying in politics "you can't beat somebody w/nobody", and the Repubs don't have any good general election cnadiates...Romney (one presumed favorite) will be easy to attack on numerous fronts (his flip flopping on abortion, his opposition to HCR when he signed into lsw a very similar bill as governor of MA, fair or unfair the Mormon thing won't help either, etc.)

35. Is it really good news that Obama has high approval ratings?
It seems that a major narrative that I read in so many threads at DU is that Obama has sold out to corporate interests and that neither party supports the best interests of working people. If this is true, then wouldn't Obama's high approval ratings actually be bad news, not good?

He's still at 80(+) among DEMOCRATS, which is almost unheard of at this stage. It would appear that those of us who still approve aren't as smart as you.
