WASHINGTON – Job openings jumped in April to the highest level in 16 months, a sign that hiring by private employers is healthy despite last week's disappointing jobs report.

The number of jobs advertised at the end of April rose to 3.1 million from 2.8 million in March, the Labor Department said Tuesday. That's the most openings since December 2008.

Private employers accounted for the entire net gain. The government's advertising for jobs decreased, despite the hiring of hundreds of thousands of census workers in May.

2. Be interesting.. I just hope, that the nattering nabobs (sorry about that)
Wait to hear the whole story instead of blowing up one day and going.. oh never mind the next.. It just plays havoc with peoples psyche.

And you can't blame people for getting upset, because of how things are not reported but commented on..

7. wont happen...
... the simple fact that the "bad" jobs report (that only showed 41,000 jobs created) got more press than the one last month that showed 200,000 jobs created is proof of that.

4. I had a brief, casual peek at the jobs listings in Craigslist in my area
this past weekend and was just remarking to my assistant that it seemed like there were 2-3 times as many jobs listed as a year ago. Still not a lot, of course, but quite noticeably more.

10. It's good
but with reports for how many over 45 are long-term unemployed and employers only considering those with jobs, I still don't think this is enough to help me.

11. Here's a dumb question:
If there are 3.1 million openings, why is it that people not jumping on each one of them? It's a serious question, not implying anything.

12. Placement technology has NOT kept up, relocations, lower pay...I get frustrated these days with
...corporations who can't find the right people especially in today's climate but it's even worse when things are better.

13. There Are Dramatic Shifts in Technology That Make Some Jobs Obsolete
Many employers used the financial crisis to lay off those obsolete workers. However, new jobs with a stronger tech emphasis are being added to the economy. Which is why you have this split between new jobs being created and high levels of unemployment.
