8-years ago today Paul Wellstone died...
He was a great progressive and a great American.

Let's also remember his wife and daughter and all others who perished with him.

2. That was such a sad day on DU as well.
We had such an enthusiastic following of Paul Wellstone DUers and it was like they had all been dumped overboard all at once when they heard the news.

17. Extremely sad day and embarrassing threads
Hundreds of comments insisting it had to be a conspiracy, not an accident. Republicans were blamed for bringing down the plane.

I was new to DU, and shocked. I always thought Democrats were less gullible to conspiracy nonsense.

20. Excellent point--it's important to always unquestioningly believe the official government version

27. At the time I ran into people who weren't especially fond of Wellstone
but wondered if it had really been an accident. One of my neighbors told me that she had been planning to vote for Coleman until she heard Wellstone was killed and the first thing she did was suspect Bush. She said she realized then she couldn't vote for anyone who was Bush's choice for any office.

The interesting thing is, once upon a time, hardly anyone's first thought would have been anything but this was an awful accident. Eight years ago an awful lot of people's first thought was that it was no accident. Even if they have since changed their minds, rather than worrying about Democrats being "gullible" - ask yourself what has gone so wrong that so many of us are ready to believe the worst of our government.

15. Paul Wellstone was the defintion
of what a true progressive is all about. I remember he used to appear on Larry King a lot back then. For me, he was the face of the progressive wing of the party. I don't know that I agreed with him on everything, but I would have voted for him for President in a second. He is sorely missed..

I accidentally unrecommended this thread. Actually feel bad about it. Sometimes I think the two buttons are too close together....

To the Wellstones, thanks for all you've sacrificed. I still have my green Wellstone campaign sign I put out during every election season.

What a great loss. And so sad for his sons to lose their parents and sister. How cruel.

'Don't fly in small planes' is good advice and should be heeded if you have pissed off TPTB.
