Virginia (05) Perriello's district : Sees Above Expected Voter Turnout
(hopefully that is good news)

Campbell Co., VA - In this area, midterm elections typically attract very few voters. But area poll workers say this election day has been the exception to the rule.

Voting in the 5th District stayed brisk all day. Voters came out at the crack of dawn, many waiting at the doors for the polls to open at 6:00 a.m.

"This one seems to be a little bit bigger than the rest of them," said Brookville H.S. Chief Officer of Election Ed Foster.

"This is huge for a mid-term, yes it is," said Leesville Elementary Chief Officer of Election Margaret Vaughan.

Poll workers say the 5th District race seems to have energized area voters. But the voters aren't thrilled by all their political ads.

"I can't wait til tomorrow when we don't have to watch those commercials anymore," said Marcia Wooldridge.

"You hear so much on television that you don't know who to vote for because all of a sudden the other one is bad," said Abner Bumgarner.

Many tell us they made the trip out in the cold because it's their duty.

"I'll vote for dog catcher if it's coming out, I like to vote. That's my right," said Edward Payne.

"Daddy always told us to vote, regardless. It don't matter Democrat or Republican, vote for who you think is best. So that's what I did, now whether it's right or wrong, I don't know," said Bumgarner.

"It's up to the voter now to say whether we like what we've had or if we don't like what we've had," said Vaughan.

Poll workers say turnout in Campbell County was also helped by a highly contested race for Circuit Court Clerk. Four candidates are running for that office.

1. It seems like a long shot but Perriello seems like a real decent rep. I'm crossing
my fingers.
