1. Well, he's got two options, neither of which are good.
1. He can stick to his guns, continue being progressive, and accomplish nothing whatsoever, as the House votes against every single thing he proposes. I guess the hope that would be that voter fury after two years of gridlock during a "jobless recovery" is directed more at Republicans than at Democrats. We can see by the 2010 results how good the angry electorate is at holding Republicans responsible.

2. He can compromise every last one of his principles, and hope that the Republicans are willing to meet him partway on an issue or two. And boy, that's sure worked out well for us.
