Sen. Murray agrees to lead Democratic fundraising for 2012 election
WASHINGTON — Girding for a tough fight to preserve their shrunken majority, U.S. Senate Democrats finally persuaded Sen. Patty Murray to once again spearhead the grunt work of raising millions of dollars for the 2012 general elections.

In naming Murray as the chairwoman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada tapped an experienced — albeit reluctant — fundraiser who helped rake in $158 million for Democratic candidates a decade ago.

The appointment concluded days of frantic headhunting by Reid as candidate after candidate rebuffed his overtures for the job. Murray herself turned Reid down last week. But entreaties from colleagues apparently helped to change her mind.

"I'm not agreeing to chair the DSCC because it's easy. I'm doing it because our country is facing tough times and we need tough leaders who will make our economy and jobs the top priority," Murray said in a statement.

1. Sheesh....they won't volunteer to raise money for themselves....

2. On the House side the job is always highly coveted
I think it might be because there is less opportunity for advancement. Van Hollen just got ranking membership of the budget committee, which he hadn't even sat on previously because of his chairing the DCCC for 4 years.
