1. I really like Big Ed...
...but your right, beating CNN is not such a super achievement anymore.

Pretty sure reruns of Leave it to Beaver on little known niche cable channels beat CNN nowadays.

Saying that, Ed is pretty awesome. I think his show is entertaining and hard hitting, and I bet it will consider growing an even bigger audience.

2. The reason Faux News beats them all is because Faux is on basic cable
channel lineups and MSNBC is usually on extended or other channel lineups that require subscribers to pay more money. My brother in Florida doesn't get MSNBC, but he gets Faux on his regular cable lineup. FYI, my brother is a Democrat and is not a fan of Faux News and the right wing media.

Until this lineup status inequality changes, Faux will lead them all.

7. I think your underestimating conservative radio/TV...
Even if MSNBC was on all the same cable/satellite packages as Fox, Fox would still have a much bigger audience.

You gotta understand the conservative mindset. In a way, these people are like a giant mass of lemmings who only want to hear news and opinion that matches their existing worldview. They aren't terribly interested in calm reasoned discussion, the arts, programming that tries to understand the human conditions, etc. What conservatives flock to, like a massive cloud of moths to a flame, is opinion that reinforces what they already believe.

Conservative radio/TV will generally blow away progressive radio/TV, because progressives have much more divided listening habits than conservatives do.
