I'm wondering. Is Obama's magic wand next to his crystal ball? Anyone know?
Since some think that Obama hasn't done enough and that he's 'weak", a "corporate mole", a "warmonger", a sell-out and everything except what he actually is, I was wondering if there is a place on the web where we can find his magic wand and his crystal ball.

The magic wand is for putting laws in place without the bother of having to get votes from fellow Democrats, their Blue Dog brothers and sisters who vote like Republicans and Republicans, hellbent on not allowing any legislative victories because that would mean actually caring about America.

This magic wand sure would come in handy when he could just wave it and laws magically appear electronically and on paper that agree with his whims. How convenient it would be to have a magic wand!

But where is this precious magic wand? It seems apparent to some that he has one that he doesn't want to use. After all, that seems to be the perception. Obama is supposed to be President, thus gets all the stuff he wants. The Senate and Congress and their committees are just window dressing or just other people hanging out in the Capitol building if you think the magic wand's powers are part of being President.

Then there's the crystal ball.

Where is it?

Obama clearly should have one, or like the magic wand, has one and refuses to use it.

After all, he met with Republicans yesterday and all seemed fine. They all sat together and shook hands and said that everything is going to work out just fine. That meeting was in the afternoon. That morning, some of these same Republicans had signed a letter saying they would do the exact opposite and the letter was being passed around like a secret birthday card.

Obama could have used his crystal ball before the meeting or, if it was a really cool one, play back in time them writing the letter while chuckling and making Boehner another cocktail.

But Obama didn't use the magic wand or the crystal ball! He must be weak! Doesn't Michelle know where these things are... maybe they are under the bed in the Lincoln bedroom.

Anybody check there?

:sarcasm:

1. he does have a dusty, unused bully pulpit. Maybe
he can get something for it on ebay. Mint condition, never used, buyer beware because no effort has ever exerted upon it.

6. What's funny is he's saying the same thing these days as he was from the bully pulpit in 2004

Maybe the bully pulpit means different things to you and Barack?

9. Apparently months of daily speeches around the country don't count in your view.
For sale: One bully pulpit. Constantly redefined as whatever the President is not using.

12. exhibit 1.
Lyndon Johnson.

Not only did he know where all the skeletons were buried, he, in some cases, helped with his own shovel. but it also allowed him to twist arms in a way that this president would never even consider thinking about. No way in hell would Ben Half Nelson gotten away with months of dithering on health care. No way would others have gone off the reservation.

13. Lyndon Johnson didn't have a Party of No and a dozen Blue Dogs to have to "work with"
In the 88th United States Congress, Johnson had these numbers...

Senate:
Democratic (D): 66 (majority)
Republican (R): 34

House of Representatives
Democratic (D): 258 (majority)
Republican (R): 177

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/88th_United_States_Congress

Obama had 235 Democrats and 199 Republicans in Congress with 59 Democrats (11 Blue Dogs) and 41 Republicans.

Different game... different time...

15. your last statement seems to be ignored by . . . you.
there were far more blue dogs then than now. on the other hand there were moderate GOPers who would vote rationally. The party label meant much less than geography, and geographically, you had liberal GOPers, and very conservative Dems. There was no bloc voting then as we know the GOP today.

17. Sheesh...
Mostly, it was a different time but the numbers certainly helped LBJ. If you want to ignore facts about how Obama clearly did not have a majority like LBJ did, good for you! Yay!

4. He's too busy being blackmailed over his mistress, in between
lengthy psychoanalytical sessions to determine why he wants Republicans to love him so much that he lets them run roughshod over him.

But he needs to make room for being a Manchurian corporate tool in between.

Busy guy!

25. Make this a Rec War
Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 07:34 PM by zulchzulu
I had 2 people rec this and then the usual suspects unrec'd the thread. I did this post while working on some lameass GANTT chart at work on another computer while working on an iPhone app and would really like to to have 200 rec's from people. Since everyone has chimed in with witty animadversions and refutations, I figured what the hell.

Being that I now have a slightly sprained ankle from walking my frisky dog in the dark of night along a windy lake while snow flurries were happening and I forgot to wear decent gloves, I would really appreciate it. Note to dog owners, she saw a rabbit.

:toast:

34. K and R. Mr. Obama exhibits grace under pressure while enduring hostility and demands.
He doesn't need a wand and a crystal ball. Instead, the poor guy needs the magic fingers of a masseuse. Preferably Shiatsu.

36. It's an interesting approach, killing the Republicans with class
Not the way I would go about it, but this is Obama.

Still, if we do it their way on tax cuts and he comes away empty-handed (no DADT repeal, no START, no Dream Act), then we can safely say he was wrong not to stand up to them, can't we?
