2. David wanders back and forth from time to time to maintain credibility: it's part of his marketing
When the Rs really want him spewing the daily talk point, he obligingly spews: back in 2004, when the rightwing wackos wanted Presidential authority to cancel elections in time of national emergency, David was spewing along with the rest of them

3. Yeah, but Brooks has been disowned by the right...
..for quite some time now.

If someone like Gingrich had said it then it might matter to them, but David Brooks....not so much.

4. It's a sign that the conventional wisdom of the "centrists" may be moving away
from the Republicans. Recently those annoying Broderites have been saying that Obama needs to compromise and work harder for bipartisanship, but the Republicans' obstruction may be too extreme for them to defend anymore.
