Kennedy Still Highest-Rated Modern President, Nixon Lowest
PRINCETON, NJ -- Of the nine U.S. presidents who have served in the past 50 years, John F. Kennedy continues to earn the highest retrospective job approval rating from Americans, now 85%. Ronald Reagan ranks second, with 74%. While these presidents' ratings are largely unchanged from 2006, Bill Clinton's rating has improved, putting him in third place, while Jimmy Carter, at 52%, has dropped from third to sixth. Richard Nixon remains the lowest rated.

This is Gallup's first retrospective approval measure of George W. Bush since he left office in 2009. His 47% approval and 51% disapproval rating puts him in Nixon's company as the only two presidents whose retrospective disapproval exceeds their approval, although the balance is much more negative for Nixon: 29% approve and 65% disapprove.

For Bush -- whose job approval ratings as president descended into the 20s in his final year -- a 47% retrospective approval is actually relatively positive, as his approval rating as president last reached that level in 2005.

1. JFK is rated by the memory of his loss.
Which was tragic...

Rating on the achievements would be tougher, he just didn't have enough time in office to display what he COULD have done. AND the handling of Cuba and Vietnam wasn't sparkling.

3. It was definitely the promise of his presidency
The sold youthful vigor, the glamour of the Kennedy's. The moon landing challenge.

I'll be forever grateful he successfully navigated the Cuban missile crisis.

Imagine we had someone like W or Palin in the office during that time. I probably wouldn't be alive to be posting here.

2. Reagan belongs near the bottom.
Reaganomics = epic fail

Iran-Contra = impeachable offense

How many of the problems that we face in this country and around the world are the results of Reagan policies? It's time to finally expose this emperor with no clothes.

5. In reality Nixon should be fourth from the bottom
The bottom four, in order, are Nixon, Bush I, and either Reagan or Bush 2 depending on whether killing eight thousand Americans for no good reason (3000 on 9/11, a thousand in Afghanistan and 4000 in Iraq--yes, I'm rounding) or arming every right-wing dictator in the world is higher on your shit list. I'd put it as Nixon, Bush I, Reagan and Bush 2.

Nixon at least did a few good things, like the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts. Bush 2's one good thing is the Do Not Call registry that doesn't fucking work.
