I am really pissed the Republicans held the lives of so many families hostage for their precious tax cuts for the extremely wealthy.

Fucking Republicans. I am an atheist and I have more Christmas spirit than them.

5. So am I. The Republicans are to blame for saying no until they got something in return.
And they were ready and willing to do it with DADT repeal too.

6. Me, too - I spent a lot of time on UC many years ago do to the closing
of many of the industries in the US - I used to be a factory planning drafter, and we haven't planned many factories for a long time.

It feels terrible to be a pawn in the political game, and especially if you have people depending on you...

I know people hate this, but I feel Obama did right this time, promises or not.

10. For the republicans, it is politics as usual-they want to win at any cost, to save
their rich backers. The Administration should have seen this coming - many others did.

9. I am so relieved, there must be millions of hearts made easier
Well if this gets through. I've just felt sick that the unemployment wouldn't be extended... or even if we got another sad one month extension it would be impossible with new congress.
republicans have been bad mouthing the unemployed and their "dependency"

Wish all the parts Dems got out of this deal, especially the unemployment, increased earned income credit, college credit and payroll tax break had been extended as long as bush break...
but 13 months of extended unemployment is at least some breathing room
(Until they reach 99 weeks and then we don't help them breathe at all)

I am so relieved by this that the anger at the deal shocks me. People know the reality of how Congress works and I can't believe people think it would be better to keep fighting extending cuts for the rich even if it means tax increase for middle class and end of all the credits and unemployment not being extended.

I was mad well before last election when Obama was on campaign trail and hitting on this so hard and then it was congress who wouldn't act. Evidently they feared republicans accusing them of raising taxes if they voted for middle class cuts only. wtf? That was the only time our fight could have been effective, that we might have shame or scared republicans into cooperating, scared of losing votes. But now? Public opinion isn't a club right now.
So we do this fight that we can't win
unless we are willing to let it all go
and then my gut will twist again because I can't imagine being jobless and my unemployment ending. (That isn't my circumstance. I just picture self in their shoes)
