The president did the right thing for the American people
The Repukes may think they won but tonight the American people are the real winners.

2. The kids who have to pay for this gargantuan debt are "winners"?
I hate to see what losing looks like.

I'm also gonna llllllloooove me some explanations from the GOP and the wealthy when they STILL ain't "creating" any jobs during 2011-12.

34. Incomes of the rich up 200% in past 10-15 years, their taxes are DOWN.
I feel for the younger generation whose expectations are down.

How did this happen? I'm glad I have no kids.

Really? Because that's from whom we'll be borrowing to pay for that tax cut.

5. Well Top Cat, you will not get many on this board to agree with you, so you're brave to post this!
That being said, I'm trying to educate myself about the deal/compromise/whatever people want to call it.
It's not even finalized, so it's hard to pass judgement yet.

I'm trying to keep an open mind and hope for the best. :)

13. I guess that I was brave to post this
I'm thinking about the unemployed people for one. At least they get another 13 months and hopefully things will open up on the job front.

What other option was there? To hold out and try to get the fucking senate to pass something we all know how that would turn out. I agree with the POTUS for not gambling with peoples lives while so many are hurting.

6. Agreed
The Republicans set up a very dangerous situation, and the ongoing damage here is very real. At the same time, the immediate situation had to be dealt with, and I'm glad we have somebody there who can step back for a minute and deal with a dangerous situation in its immediacy. We will have to keep struggling to deal with the longer term repercussions of these despicable Republican tactics, as always.

8. What you're saying is that the Repukes are making Obama play by their rules?
That's not why either Ginny or I elected Obama in the first place. We wanted a Democrat in the White House to call the Repukes on their BS.

As it stands, the Republicans have decided to use the filibuster in a manner never seen before. You can deal with that or not.

40. Widening the gap between rich and poor is NOT standing up for working people.
What the fuck did "working people" get from this deal? The NON-working people get a break for another 13 months, but will they have a job after that money runs out? Will the rich actually start hiring; like they haven't done for the past nine years?

What the fuck did the bottom 98% get?

12. Just one problem with that.
The republicans will deflect the blame, like they always do. This "dangerous situation" will fall on the backs of the Democrats, just like TARP the economy, and every other republican fuck-up has been falling.

42. How about, even more will lose their homes in 13 months when their are no new jobs.
And the gap between the rich and the bottom 98% is even greater.

This compromise is a bandage. It does NOTHING to fix the long term economic problems of this country. It actually makes it worse.

This is pure political jockeying, and the masses are not amused.
