(which is in no way meant to be a slight against DU)

13. Agree.
Of course, there are no parameters given, defining 'liberal democrat', but as evidenced from this site, as well as many other progressive sites on the web, the very most liberal Democrats are the ones most disappointed in him, while the most conservative Democrats are the most supportive of him, which turns the listing Gallup gave on its head.

It is bullshit - somebody's not being honest, here.

7. Those 83% will be walking tomorrow......
as they are all mad as hell that the unemployed get a 13 months extension,
and that those 83% most in the middle class won't see their taxes go up....
and indeed they will go down with the payroll tax reduction.

Yes, they are mad as hell that those rich folks get to keep their money
for another two years....cause that was their priority!

Devastating!

NOT!

even if fighting will not get you anywhere because repubs in the senate along with 5 dems were going to fillubuster Obama's real tax plan no matter what the case was....everyone here says he should fight....first, I really don't know what fight means and secondly, Obama (and god for that matter) are not going to change the minds of the repubs in the senate....

They pay next to no attention to politics, and think the President's done all kinds of things that he hasn't.

19. You really need to stop citing a poll that shows
Obama hasn't a chance in hell of winning another election. I think gallup is a crock, but you have to read your own citations.

What percentage of Americans identify themselves as liberal Democrats? That has to be the smallest group on the list. He is down and falling everywhere else.

20. He's actually been holding rather steady this entire year.
His big drop came on in 2009 when Republican support plummeted from the 30+% range down to near single digits and he had a somewhat lesser but stiff significant drop with independents. Dem support has remained fairly constant.

28. the real important numbers
Long time lurker, first time poster.

Here are the real telling numbers from Gallup:

Whites: 37%
Blacks: 89%
Hispanics: 68%

What demo do you suppose the demographic makeup of DU (and the Internet as a whole) is skewed toward?

What demo do you think most of the people posters on DU are talking to?

There's a reason DU'ers experience and the polls don't match.

There's a reason Obama's approval seems higher than we'd expect.

Race card played, let the flames begin.

41. maybe I was too glib
What I am saying is, a certain segment of the population is supporting Obama no matter what.

That would be Afican-Americans, who trend Democratic.

Minorities are under represented on the Internet.

So when we notice differences between our experience in life and on DU, they are due to sampling bias.

The Presidents approval ratings on Gallup seem skewed higher because he has pretty much unwavering support among non-white demographics.

The disapproval we see here may be skewed the other way, because the sample here is not representative of the whole (meaning, over representation of non-minorities).

I guess I should have avoided the phrase "race card" which looks to have created some knee jerk reactions.

44. What does that mean, really?
One can "approve" of someone and still be pretty strongly disappointed in him or her. I'd "approve" Obama if I was polled because I don't believe in giving the teabaggers any ammunition, but few (scandal-free) politicians have caused my expectations to fall as much- and I think my expectations were pretty reasonable to begin with.

And prefer that to some mesmerizing leader who gets everything he wants at all times, and that happens to be everything the voter wants, without having to deal with any opposition.
