I wish Obama would visit Senators/Reps states/districts to get legislation passed
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 10:23 PM by CreekDog
I mean look, Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine)has said she's in favor of DADT repeal but won't vote for it until tax cuts are passed.

And she won't vote for it except as part of a certain type of bill.

She is getting away with saying she's principled.

Could she get away with it as easily if Obama was in her state asking her why her support is conditional if she's actually in favor of it?

1. I heard my fave Senator (Sherrod Brown) making that
same argument tonight, but this is one time when I disagree with him. I don't think the time is right for rallies out in the States to push Congress members on legislation. I just don't think it will be that effective. We just came off of an election season, people that would show up are now focusing on the holidays, shopping, going to see Christmas programs and lights displays. The weather is likely to suck.. I don't think the rallies would be that effective at this time. jmho...

2. Anthony Weiner made the same argument.

That may have made sense a few months back, but Weiner conceded last night that the House decided not to vote on the issue prior to the election.

There simply isn't time to plan and wage that kind of campaign and, you're right, people are focused on the holidays.

Republicans held unemployment hostage for two months this summer. I have no expectation that they'll cave in three weeks when three days later they will control the House and have more seats in the Senate.

Democrats don't have time on their side, and there are other bills to address before this session ends.
