"A Wednesday Vote On DADT?"
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 12:22 AM by Clio the Leo
In 24 hours, we've gone from "will Dems hold DADT vote after Christmas?" to this. Good news. #FingersCrossed

A Wednesday Vote On DADT?
By Kerry Eleveld

Senate majority leader Harry Reid may bring to a vote on Wednesday the National Defense Authorization Act with “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal attached, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.

Democrats might make use of a narrow window of down time if the four bills scheduled for a vote Wednesday fail to garner the 60 votes necessary to proceed to debate. Those bills include a firefighters collective bargaining bill, the DREAM Act, a 9/11 firefighters health compensation measure, and a measure extending a one-time $250 payment to senior citizens. If all fail, the NDAA could be brought to a vote by sometime Wednesday afternoon.

The strategy is still preliminary but the source said the White House had begun to engage on the issue and President Barack Obama intends to make calls to key GOP targets.

2. Liz Cheney came out in support it today...
.... not newsworthy that she's supporting a LGBT issue (because her family has a strong record of this already) but newsworthy because she's supporting an Obama agenda item.

We shall see.

3. Well she's doing the right thing so good for her (although it must gall her to
agree with Obama on ANYTHING.)

4. Really! I don't give a flip what she does when she's delusional,
which is mostly, so I don't know whether I should give a flip about this. I'll think about it. :dilemma:

12. lol, understandable .... but since her family has made basing the Pres a way of life...
.... it IS significant that she'd publicly support anything the President wants moved on. (Even if the real reason have more to do with her sis than anything else.)

5. The Senate calendar says ....
At 3:30pm, the Senate will resume consideration of the motion to proceed to S.3391. There will then be an additional 30 minutes of debate equally divided between the Leaders or their designees. Upon the use or yielding back of time, the Senate will proceed to a series of up to 4 roll call votes.

- Cloture on the motion to proceed to Calendar #662, S.3991, the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act of 2009 (commonly known as Firefighters Collective Bargaining);
- Cloture on the motion to proceed to Calendar #655, S.3985, the Emergency Senior Citizens relief Act of 2010;
- Cloture on the motion to proceed to Calendar #663, S.3992, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2010 (DREAM Act); and
- Cloture on the motion to proceed to Calendar #641, H.R.847, the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010.

If cloture is invoked on a motion to proceed, there would then be up to 30 hours for debate.

If cloture fails on all 4 motions, there is a possibility that Senator Reid would reconsider the failed cloture vote on the motion to proceed to S.3454, DoD Authorization.

9. I'll call Senator Kirk's office again this morning.
Thanks for the heads-up.

This is basically it, votewise. Unless Reid is convinced to keep the Senate in session beyond their scheduled adjournment date.

19. Or BECAUSE of the compromise, we're able to move on other issues...
.... as you may recall, GOP sent a letter to the Pres that they'd block debate of EVERYTHING until they bailed out the millionaires. Hence the hostage metaphor. ;)
