Do you know why the Republicans are so giddy about the tax deal?
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 11:12 PM by MannyGoldstein
Because Obama saved their asses.

They knew if the Democrats had held firm, the Republicans would have had to either:
a. Horrifically piss off 90% of the US
b. Capitulate themselves

They learned the lesson from the 1995 government shutdown that nuked Gingrich - don't go to the mat when the vast majority of Americans are against your position.

When Obama offered to capitulate for them, they thanked their lucky stars.

1. Actually the biggest win is that if the Dems kill the deal they will be the ones pissing off the 90%

6. Supply side economics caused all this economic collapse
More of it is madness. Two more years of the policies that got us here will add two years to the recovery.

Sadly, we will never know what we could have gotten had Obama fought.

8. Yeah we do know. Higher taxes for everyone
Now I suppose that we could have tried to convince the American people that it was all the Republicans' fault, but would they have listened?

2. And the poison pill payroll tax holiday
which is poised to eat the guts out of Social Security, and the hidden tax on the lowest-income folks due to the end of the earned income credit...

All around, a win for the Reptilians.

3. A left right alliance could still scuttle this, which would be great.
Perhaps our only hope is pointing out that this deal is a tax increase via the "death tax." The right should absolutely oppose it. Of course we cannot mobilize the Democratic elected officials so perhaps we can play the other side for our purposes.

7. Yep - If Obama was on our side, he would have done what Clinton did, not capitulate.
The mask is off.
