I think the President's tax deal should pass (yes, really)
It's probably as good as we can do in the time left or as good as we can do as a part of a collection of accomplishments (including DADT repeal) before Congress adjourns.

But I'm angry about this. Obama has spent two weeks on this, proactively trying to drum up support and strike deals and with lots of odds against him, he got something --so why am I angry at him about this? Because had he forced the issue over the summer or sometime sooner, he would've had a shot at a better result and even if he didn't --when this one came along at least we'd all know it was the best we could do.

But now I'm stuck with supporting it because it's probably the best we can do now.

But it is not the best we could have done.

TWO WEEKS of Obama's effort changes everything, we saw that during the health care passage. Why on earth did we have to wait to see this kind of concerted effort until now?

I wish he'd started way earlier too.

Damn it.

On edit: Recommended.

4. Obama wanted to fight this out BEFORE the election...
House and Senate Dems chose to slink out of town and refused to go on the record prior to November and make it a campaign issue.

And now House and Senate Dems are bitching and moaning?

Either way, now that Obama has signed off on it there is simply no way to take that back. This is the deal, and no matter how unhappy some are about it will ultimately pass. Dragging it out is exactly what the Republicans want as it is an excuse for them to block all other business.

5. It's fair to be angry and disappointed. But, like you, I also want something
constructive to happen.

9. The problem of the lowest wage earners seeing an increase under this plan needs to be addressed
Trading the Making Work Pay for the payroll tax cut results in about a $200 increase for people making less than $20K a year.

I've contacted my Congresscritters about it and suggest that everyone else do the same. It is appalling that the only people seeing their taxes go up from last year will be the poorest.
