Sherrod Brown just said on CNN that DADT repeal is NOT dead.
Harry Reid can and will bring it up again after the tax bill has been voted on. This was an attempt to bypass that BS, but it didn't work. They were short 2 votes, and we'll have them-Brown and Murkowski, and probably more.

he said what he said in my OP.

39. Isn't this the 2nd time he has done this for DADT
and at least the 10th time for other votes that the GOP has blocked?

You'd think "informed" DUers would know why he had to vote no by now.

a motion to reconsider can only be made by someone who voted with the prevailing side. Had he voted for cloture, he would not be able to make such a motion.

he had no way to find one more senator that would vote for this? And if that's the case why did they even bring this to the floor?

Thanks for your explaination by the way.

7. Time is running out fast...
If this tax cut "deal" debate doesn't get resolved soon, there will be no time for the days upon days of debate the Republicans are demanding in exchange for yes votes. The time remaining in the this lame duck Congress is fast disappearing.

16. Sherrod Brown said they should stay in session 'til it's done. And this is
a reason why the tax cut deal DOES need to be done soon-and WILL be done soon. John Harwood reported today that DADT repeal has a good chance of getting done.

29. Yeah, but Sherrod Brown OPPOSES the tax deal...
...last I checked.

Your basically depending on Sherrod Brown to hurry up the tax deal so we can get to a standalone DADT, yet Sherrod Brown opposes the tax deal and intends to try to stop it. Opposing the tax deal gums up the works for everything else - including DADT, DREAM, START, etc.

That's what Mitch McConnell said today. So if the Dems in the House don't change their mind and vote for the tax cut bill that included tax cuts for the rich, DADT is dead.
