Obama Worked to Kill Democratic Fight on Tax Cuts
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 03:47 PM by sasha031
Source: FDL

Brian Beutler broke the story of how Obama was working to undermine Schumer’s $1 million tax cut compromise last week, but Glen Thrush fleshes it out even more today.
But privately, White House officials, who have long viewed Schumer as a talented but essentially self-promotional operator with no abiding loyalty to Obama, think he was pursuing an irresponsible partisan fight that would delay the tax cuts and the extension of unemployment benefits for months. And Obama himself warned Schumer that the millionaire strategy could sink the stock market.

When a vote on the millionaire plan came up short last Saturday, the administration gloated — and mocked Schumer for overestimating his support in meetings with West Wing officials.

“Sen. Schumer says he wants a fight? He couldn’t hold his caucus together,” an anonymous White House official told ABC’s Jake Tapper earlier this week.
Right. Who voted against the compromise? The oh-so-principled Dick Durbin, who could only vote “yes” on tax cuts for income less than $250,000 a year…is now “increasingly supportive” of Obama’s own compromise.

Like that guy wouldn’t dance like a monkey in spandex lederhosen for the privilege of emptying Obama’s chamber pot.

Also love the part where Obama says Schumer’s plan would “sink the stock market.” Right. Because Chuck Schumer, the Senator from New York, would be out there pushing a plan that Wall Street fears

2. This makes no sense.
The president was against Schumer's compromise, but it, along with the plan the President supported, failed in the Senate with Democrats, including Feingold voting against them.

Why would he want to own a plan to give tax cuts to those earning up to $1 million? He would have been slammed if that was part of his side of the deal.

10. Many agendas are quite clear. Real issue is, are the facts right or not?

If it is true that Obama asserted this false tripe then he is really dumber (or more dishonest) than I thought.

8. Hamsher has no credibility. Dems
had all year to "fight" though it wouldn't have done any good. Republicans are like a crazy psycho holding a gun to a baby's head and threatening to shoot it if you don't comply with his demands. Now, most criminals don't shoot babies in the head, but the Republicans would. And everyone knows it. So the Dems' can call their bluff and walk away and let them kill the baby or they can save the baby.

Republicans are the kind of people would actually shoot the metephorical "baby." Democrats would never allow such a thing. That's the difference between us. We actually care about the middle-class, the poor, and the unemployed. They don't.

They're aren't bluffing. They will block all tax cuts, which would be really bad for people and for the economy, but what is just as bad if not worse, they'll also block DADT, DREAM, START. And probably everything else that we might want to do. They have control of the House next year and they're already able to block anything they want in the Senate -- next year it will be even easier since we'll have a much smaller majority. So what do we do? Let them kill the baby or save the baby?

I vote for the latter.

9. FDL has put out one too many BS articles to be reliable anymore.
Might as well quote Huffpo or Drudge. The difference between them is becoming less clear.

11. Many have been saying for weeks that Obama did not want taxes to go up for anyone,
given how weak the recovery has been. Why doubt it, given who his economic advisors are and how hard he and his administration have been working to sell this?

Does no one remember how Obama quickly killed the drug re-importation bill?

De Nile sure ain't just a river in Egypt.

13. Fight with what? FDL is not reliable in the least.
In fact, President Obama wanted this debate much earlier than the Nov. 4 election. However, the House dems didn't want it. They were afraid that discussing taxes would make it more difficult to get elected and they thought they would hold the House. They didn't and now they have run out of time. The Senate voted last week on Schumer's proposal and it didn't pass. It takes 60 votes. People keep forgetting that.

15. Except that it isn't true. If it were, you would be hearing about this from Schumer himself
not the Hamster. FDL is not credible.
