You are part of the plan! - The dynamics of the RW
It is different from what I have read elsewhere, but makes a lot of sense. The blogger who wrote that is not saying that the deal is good or the president was right to endorse it. He is just pointing at what is in play with this deal. You can agree or disagree with him on that.

You are part of the plan!

Yes ... you! YOU! are part of the plan to elect a Republican in 2012.

It's simple divide and conquer. The Republicans adopt outrageously unpopular stands and hold popular actions hostage, knowing that Obama will get blamed more than they will. (He's PRESIDENT, dammit!)

They think/know that Obama will hemorrhage support from the left if he gives the GOP what they want; they know that he will hemorrhage support from the non-ideologicals if he doesn't get something significant done on a host of very popular policies. (Ending tax cuts for the wealthy; extending uemployment benefits; creating jobs; public option; and on and on.)

Point is ... this is not even necessarily about how much the GOP loves tax cuts for the rich -- though surely they do love that.

It's with the active intent of discouraging you. It's with the active intent of keeping you, Ms.-Mr. Grassroots Activist/Base Leftie, off the streets and off your phone going into 2012; making sure that you don't have a good, heartfelt story to tell about your candidate.

It's not a by-product; it's not a fluke; it's not an accident or windfall for them. They know what they're doing.

So, you know, it's all going according to plan.

...

My point here is not to absolve the President of his responsibility, or even to say that he's made the right choices. I'm only pointing out the dynamic at play, and we're all playing our parts delightfully well, I must say.

1. I am not discouraged, but I have no
more fear. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils again. He has to change his priorities, because I will not change mine again.

2. Only Nixon could go to China.
Only Obama can gut SS and Medicare.

The prospect of having a President Palin in 2012 is starting to lose its sting.

I'm coming to the same conclusion.

4. Yes, they're devious. Either we abandon our candidate or we abandon our values.
They've given us a Hobson's choice. And our people in Washington keep rolling over and letting 'em do it to us.

6. Who is asking anyone to abandon their values?
Abandoning values = Tax cuts for the rich. The President doesn't want the cuts.

Abandoning values = Abandoing the unemployed and economic recovery to spite Republicans.

7. Oh yeah, I forgot about the "economic recovery" that this plan brought us over the past 8 years...
:eyes:

And what about the 99ers? You're abandoning those unemployed.

The 2009 stimulus package is not eight years old.

the Bush/Repblican tax cuts for the rich are more than 10 years old, not eight.

19. Bush created the crisis
President Obama's stimulus prevented the economy from sliding into a depression. The fact is that unlike the crisis Bush created, President Obama dug the country out of a huge hole and put the economy back into positive terroritory.

20. And Obama's extending a key cause of it without a fight.
Sure, the stimulus was successful. No objection here, Mark. But we're talking about the tax cave, not the stimulus.

Why are you trying to change the subject?

...call them off in return for everything we want.

Oh yeah, Obama's afraid to stand up to hostage-takers.

17. That's an interesting idea too, but doesn't sound feasible. It would require
partisan bickering, and the public voted against that in 2010 according to the narrative i've been given, heh heh.

13. Who's the "we"?
All that talk about Dems losing their "base", whoever those may be?

Just work a deal to GET a Dem president impeached. See how much of the party stands behind that when you want to put another Dem in office.

WHICH party is doomed to implosion?

16. Democrats is the we. We need to start thinking outside the box and get creative to help our country.
Look, even Obama says we have to make compromises. i just think this compromise is one that more people could live with and that would get us much more in the way of concessions from the Repos.

This is about the good of the country.

Heck, Dems could run on changing the law after 2012 so that impeachment is more difficult. That would be an issue that you might care about and generate people to vote for those candidates. So it could be a really good thing in a whole number of ways.

15. "Nothing fails like success when working for the devil"
Che said that once, and it's true. Fact is, the reactionarky right doesn't wanna win anything... Read 'Up From Conservativism' by Kevin phillips...stealing candy from a baby is too easy; the ruling elite could always do it, anytime; the trick was to leave the baby (body politic) intact and strong/healthy! The Revolution can happen in a week (especially when all the big tough guys realize they getting not only their own arses raped by Mister pig, but their lovely children are getting screwed too! AND not only that, but the elders, the Greatest Generation, were ROBBED BLIND over 40 years by sissies who too cowardly to fight in the wars they advocated!)
George Orwell once saw a little boy leading a huge water buffalo across a field, and he was struck by idea that such a huge animal was led around by a little kid! The point is, the animal might balk, WILL BALK! at getting lead over a cliff to doom!
And it's over the cliff we're going! you betcha HORST WESSEL LIED!
hahaha (private joke)
When your enemy pushes, you PULL, when he pulls, YOU PUSH!
either way, fascism is doomed. I insist

18. On the other hand, maybe the blogger is part of the plan
Rather than joining with other progressives to press Obama into being a Democrat again, bloggers like that actually perhaps are employees of the right wing who want Obama to continued on a muddled, unprincipled path by already cost the Democrats a near-record number of House seats.

23. President Obama has clearly already thought about this.
Edited on Sun Dec-12-10 04:14 PM by truedelphi
But he figures and even said this a few days ago - that if he puts into effect, actions and laws the Republicans insist on, then the electorate will blame the Republicans.

My speculation here: He also figures that he will be running against Sarah Palin, and that no sane person would vote for her.

25. Why would the Republicans be blamed for Democrats enacting their policies?
There is also a chance they will nominate someone with fewer built in negatives than Palin.

Neither point is built on a firm foundation.

26. I am not the one to explain the delusions of those in power.
But sometimes those in power know things we don't. For instance, maybe the voting machinery will
again select the choice of the Powers that Be, rather than that of the electorate.
