As public digests Clinton/Obama White House pressser, Obama approval soars in Gallup daily tracking
The title above is my spin but it's the only thing that could account for a 10 point swing in 1 day.

46-47% upside down now. Was 43-49% just yesterday!! Wow!!

2. Good news, and Andrew Sullivan gets it.
'Barack Obama won the great tax-cut showdown of 2010 - and House Democrats don't have a clue that he did.
Bill Clinton gets it. The markets get it. The only question is: why doesn't the House move swiftly to pass this as-good-as-it-will-get deal, and then move forward on START, DADT and the DREAM Act? A week is a long time in politics. Two weeks - which the Democrats could give themselves if they want - could turn a coup into a year-end triumph for the president and this party.'

17. Yep, that person really doesn't get it. When all the shouting is over by some here, eventually they
will figure out that we just won the 2012 election. Yes, I think the compromise could be that big. It completely shuts down all the typical modes of attack by a Repug Presidential nominee.

Wrong...every word of it. For all those say Obama caved without a fight, I'd like to see one decent shred of evidence. Not heresay, not "well if you think of it this way..." not because of closed doors...non of that is evidence. Something that clearly indicates there was no fight.

15. Hammered out behind closed doors. GOP/DLC get everything they want,
complete disregard to the majority opinion of Americans, only use of the bully pulpit is to scold the party base in the hope of shaming them to the Conservative position.

Not sure why it so completely escapes some. A majority of folks seem to be aware of the score though, so that is encouraging.

31. The 10 point swing is because
If I net 5 points, I actually changed the score by 10. You take away 5 points and give 5 points. That equals a 10 point swing even though the disapproval/approval number changed by just 5 numbers. You guys are the ones that need math lessons. Haha. It's like if you win 25 electoral votes, you actually swing the electoral college by 50 by taking them off the board. etc. Pay more attention young whipper snappers!!!

33. um, no
thats not how one reads polls. You don't count the numbers twice. The number moves in one direction, you do not count both its move away from one side, and then also count it's movement over to the other side.

If I have ten dollars and give you five, you still have only gained five and I have only lost five. You are not +10 dollars and I would not be -10 dolars.

36. Yes quite correct now that I think about it
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 10:09 PM by Politics_Guy25
What confused me was I distinctly remembered Jeff Greenfield on CNN Election night 2000 talking about how taking away Florida's 25 electoral votes from Al Gore and giving them to George W. Bush amounted to a 50 electoral college vote swing. So the swing is what confused me. Also, I was confused at swings because the dems in the house had something like a 70 seat majority in 2010 but it only took 39 seats to win the majority even though there were like 70 more dems than reps in the 111th.

Get where I was coming from now?? How I could have thought what I thought?

I still think it is a swing though because if you take away 3 from the disapproval side say and give it to the approval side. Isn't that a swing of 6 points in the total approval/disapproval numbers. Explain to me why that is not correct please.

Just trying to learn here, if that's allowed. Thanks.

I understand that anyone who supports President Obama now on DU is ostracized and that it is no longer OK to support him without bullying. Fine by me.

37. Actually
Supporting Obama is fine. Doing so with faulty logic is not. I think you are confusing adding the differences in approv and disapprov, which is the total swing, and double counting any movement in the numbers.
