Instead of an arm twister, we got an appeaser
Edited on Mon Dec-13-10 09:58 PM by DaveofCali
Obama seriously was a bad choice for a president, and we had signs of it. Obama was simply too nice and too much of an appeaser to do the hard and aggressive arm twisting (that even Abraham Lincoln did) that a President has to do in order to get things passed through Congress. We should've known that we were getting a Clinton instead of an FDR.

BTW, anyone here figure why seemingly Obama puts much more effort in trying to sell a concession to his party rather than standing up for his original proposals in the first place? Waive the surrender flag and get as many people in lockstep as possible in agreeing to it!!! What the hell is that kind of attitude doing in the Democratic party!?

1. Appeaser is a Republican choice of term.
You principles had its foot on the throat of the Middle Class....
and if you think that the Republicans were gonna give anymore,
you haven't been around for the past 2 years.

3. So we are supposed to always go with the good cop / bad cop routine!?
I'm seriously sick of this, the bad cop comes and scares us so we all huddle with the good cop, which is not really that much better than the bad cop, but pretends to be so....

4. I don't this Obama is getting the surrender flag -
I think he's getting exactly what he wants - including undermining Social Security and tax cuts for the wealthy. It's not the people who voted for him that will be able to make him wealthy beyond his dreams when he leaves office. Just look how well Clinton has done since his presidency ended.

28. If you said Obama is the best president we have had in 2 years, you might be believable
But what you are really saying is that you think Bill Clinton sucked. If you really think Barack Obama is the best president in decades, then you are saying he has done a better job in these first two years of his presidency than Clinton did in his 8 years where he had this country hopping financially and where he had us at peace. IOW, what you are saying is absolutely preposterous.

8. He worked his tail off getting this tax deal passed. There has been some serious arm twisting
on this tax break for billionaires. I don't remember seeing him stake out a position so forcefully before a vote since he was inaugurated.

I guess there are some priorities after all that he will go to the mat for.

27. George Bush didn't get good things done, like
Signing a bill allowing poor kids to eat free school lunches
Improving school nutrition
Extending health care to children via SCHIP
Extending health care to 30 million Americans
Passing the Matthew Shepard Act
Passing a financial reform bill
Signing a bill repealing DADT (which will be happening very soon)

Only a complete asshole and someone who has absolutely no idea what they're talking about would compare Barack Obama to George Bush

19. Another thing is simply the nature of elections nowadays
Obama's going to probably have to raise 2 billion dollars (since the 2012 presidential campaign will probably be about 4 billion dollars, 2008 was a $1.7 billion presidential campaign) and since small donations were even still only a small part of the money he raised, he's still going to have to rely on corporations for most of his donations, so he's not going to upset the corporations and even shill for them so he can get reelected.

23. To be an appeaser
you have to give away something you know you shouldn't be giving away. What evidence is there he gave away something he didn't want to give. There isn't any. Giving away tax cuts for the rich ideologically fits right in with a belief system that enabled him to escalate a war, drone people, assembling a 3500-person assassination squad, spying on people, failing to prosecute war criminals, catering to bankers and finaciers, lashing out against unions and teachers, etc. Why is it so necessary to believe he went against his own interests? Why not accept the obvious -- he didn't. He's not an appeaser, he's a right-wing conservative. I would say conservative only, but what he has done in Afghanistan scereams right wing.

24. It was quite apparent what we were getting,
those that are surprised, didn't read up on his history.

An article from a Chicago reporter. You can read it here http://wonkette.com/361542/barack-obamas-dastardly-rage... where it is Cliff Notes, or here where it is 5 pages, http://www.houstonpress.com/2008-02-28/news/barack-obam... / After reading this story, I knew what Obama was, and he would be as big a disappointment as Carter (who I actually liked, and voted for).

Here's a little example of Chicago Obama: Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.

"I took all the beatings and insults and endured all the racist comments over the years from nasty Republican committee chairmen," State Senator Rickey Hendon, the original sponsor of landmark racial profiling and videotaped confession legislation yanked away by Jones and given to Obama, complained to me at the time. "Barack didn't have to endure any of it, yet, in the end, he got all the credit.

"I don't consider it bill jacking," Hendon told me. "But no one wants to carry the ball 99 yards all the way to the one-yard line, and then give it to the halfback who gets all the credit and the stats in the record book."

He never negotiated anything before, so why would you think he would be good at it.

zalinda
