Kyl: Reid holding votes after Christmas would be disrespecting Christians
Reid Accused of Disrespecting Christians

Tthe New York Times reports that after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) suggested he might schedule votes after Christmas, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) -- who is trying to kill ratification of the START treaty -- said that would be disrespecting of Christians.

Said Kyl: "It is impossible to do all of the things that the majority leader laid out without doing -- frankly, without disrespecting the institution and without disrespecting one of the two holiest of holidays for Christians and the families of all of the Senate, not just the senators themselves but all of the staff."

1. Because nobody works between Christmas and New Year's
:eyes:

What an ass. This guy needs to be working in retail, but I doubt he'd qualify.

Scheduling a vote on Christmas would be disrespectful but that's just one day.

16. What about Jewish holidays, Muslim holidays, Pagan holidays?
And so on. Do Christians have the market cornered on self pity as well as self rightousness? How respectful was it for the Christians to co-opt Pagan holidays in abundance? I used to be a Christian and generally I have a live and let live policy but I'm a bit tired of the sanctimony.

18. With All The Wars Liberals Have On Their Hands
Edited on Wed Dec-15-10 09:26 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
With all the wars liberals have on their hands I don't think a war on Christmas Day is one we can win. In fact it's probably the last war we will ever fight as we would be consigned to total irrelevance in America.

BTW, Muslims celebrate Christmas. They believe he was a prophet.

25. No, Muslims do not celebrate Christmas
They don't even make a big deal of Muhammed's birthday -- so why would they celebrate the birthday of someone they consider a secondary prophet?

And if you'd read the OP, you'd know that nobody is telling Republicans they can't have Christmas Day off -- just that they don't get to take the next ten days off along with it. Somehow I doubt that making a point of this is going to consign the Democrats to "total irrelevance in America."

28. Don't People Read Before Jumping To Assumptions
The OP said Kyl doesn't want to work the week after Christmas. I suggested, inferred, implied, whatfucking ever his refusal was patently absurd. I said if Kyl refused to work on Christmas Day he would have a point. To which my interlocutor suggested he should work on Christmas Day and the whole idea of making Christmas Day a national holiday was unwarranted. My retort was any attempt to legitimize Christmas Day was doomed to fail and would make us irrelevant.

I stand on that.

some due, in part, to guys like Kyl and his anti-union, anti-worker policies.

This slimeball needs to stop making excuses and stalling and do his job.

Eng.: "They might pass some stuff beneficial to the country before we are able to block everything
they could possibly come up with for the next two years."

What makes you so different, Senator ASSHOLE??????

Besides, this Christian wants that treaty ratified. ASAP.

40. As do banks, retail stores, post offices, delivery services, medical service, restaurants, the list
goes on and on.

The ONLY people who take the week off between the two holidays are schools, and legislatures at the state and federal level.

Even government burocrats have to go to work day after day, the week after Christmas.

Well, aside from the stupidity of his comments (lots of people work ON Christmas and before and after it as well), I guess Kyl and his Republican colleagues should've thought of that before they decided to stall and hold everything "hostage" while they were busy working out the tax cut deal. Of course, leave it to them not to think twice about the "consequences" of their decision. Losers! :eyes:

27. Christmas is one day
and it happens to fall on a weekend this year. He wouldn't be working that day anyway.

I don't live in AZ but if I did he'd be hearing from me. What an ass. He's disrespecting millions of hard working people who work before during and after Chrismas with a lame remark like that.

In addition to being an obstructionist, I think he's one lazy ass.

30. Wow. I overheard two employees at JoAnn's Fabrcs
talking. One said-- How late are we open Christmas Eve? The other said "6:00"

All I could think of is there is really no crafting emergency that would move me to shop at JoAnn's on Christmas Eve. If they must be open, that day, can't they close at noon?

There is really nothing that important that can't wait a couple days. I suspect that is true of any store except possibly pharmacies and auto parts.

36. Mr. Kyl needs to read up on American history
Massachusetts banned the celebration of Christmas for many, many years: December 25 was just another day. How dare Kyl go against the beliefs of the Founders?

If it's so important to you, Kyl, go ahead and attend the midnight service or whatever your sect does for religious observation on Christmas. Then get back to work.

41. the TRUTH: he cares more about his vacation than he does about America
America's problems aren't important enough for him to work, even though millions of Americans work the day OF Christmas, and the two weeks after Christmas.

But GOP/Neocons have a vacation fetish, look at W with his record-breaking number of days on vacation.
