Krugman: Invincible Ignorance

Invincible Ignorance

So Republican members of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission are going to issue their own report, placing primary blame on the government — because it’s always the government’s fault.

And according to reporting at the Huffington Post,

all four Republicans voted in favor of banning the phrases “Wall Street” and “shadow banking” and the words “interconnection” and “deregulation” from the panel’s final report, according to a person familiar with the matter and confirmed by Brooksley E. Born, one of the six commissioners who voted against the proposal.

Yep. It was all Fannie and Freddie, which somehow managed to cause housing bubbles in Ireland, Iceland, Latvia, and Spain as well as the United States; and the repo market had nothing to do with it.

And bear in mind that this wasn’t one Republican; it was all of them.

I really do wonder how this country can remain governable, when one party insists on creating its own reality. Next thing you know they’re going to reject the theory of evolution. Oh, wait …

5. K&R You gotta ask yourself why
they keep getting elected. My mother used to say that a country got the government it deserved. Over and over I keep running into guys out of work for two years, no insurance, losing their homes who say they vote republican because the Democrats are commie/terrorists. They believe the Democrats are fighting the noble republicans to keep hurting people and take away their freedom. In the face of such ignorance and sheer stupidity it is tempting to just let them rot in their own stew. Only trouble is that the rest of us are in the same pot with them.

I can understand, not agree with, rich people with no conscience or moral center voting for their own selfish interests. Those are soulless assholes. But the idiots who keep voting for the very ghouls who are torturing them is just too much.

Once again. Krugman rules.

9. Effective propaganda,
from the tv machine to the radio to the blogs on The Internets.

Their base, the transnationals, fund the dumbing down of the electorate. It's really that simple.

I live in a major metro region, yet there is not one single solitary counter to the 24/7 RepubliCorp message. Not one. Even rock radio jockeys inject a little RW spin between tunes. It's some sick stuff.

Needless to say, my community is full of RW lunatics. Virtually no intelligent discussion in this town. Just regurgitated RW talking points and twisted logic.
