How the 2012 election will play out:
First: Obama won't run for a second term. He said at the very beginning, that he doesn't aim for a second term and by now he has lost the support of the grass-roots organizers and the liberal wing of the democrats -> someone else will make it in the democratic primary.

Barney Franks/Alan Grayson 2012?

Without Obama, the republicans won't have a rallying cry of "taking country back" and so on. And without hysteria/personality, the elections will come down to focusing on politics.

Obama will become for the democrats what G.W.Bush became for the republicans at the end of his term: A liability.
The democrats' campaign will again focus on running away, this time running away from Obama's position and proposing an end to the tax cuts to balance the budget, buying lower- and middle-class voters with promises of more social security.
The republicans will demand extending the tax cuts, giving them more time to take effect and balancing the budget by cutting social security.
-> The republicans lose.

And don't worry your head off about Palin: If she could stand the pressure, viciousness and scrutiny of a public office she would have finished her term as governor. Being in charge is hard work, but yelling from the sidelines brings publicity and money. Can you imagine her answering questions like "Governor Palin, what's your take on the tribal and religious divisions in the Iraqi parliament?" ?

2. I don't agree that Obama will drop out. Quite the contrary. Every
move he has made seems to have been calculated for a re-election. Although I don't think he will simply volunteer to quit. He might could be "dumped" if the Democrats had enough resolve to follow through on any bold idea.

He is most definitely a huge liability to the Democratic Party and to the people of the U.S. as well.
His participation in the "compromise" has accelerated the rate of wealth acquisition for the greedy
rich, the worst move possible. Further, he has been from the beginning, hell bent on wasting money and lives in Afghanistan. Almost as big a blunder as the Iraq invasion.

him, then we are totally screwed. I want to make my position clear. I don't care if every person on the planet supports him. I think that his is a terrible sellout to the Democratic Party and to the Americans who aren't in the top 2% of income earners.

17. I disagree that his moves have been calcualted for re-election
the tax abomination that just passed for instance gives the republicans a win/win and the Dems a lose/lose.

In 2012 the repubs will be saying that they held Obama's feet to the fire and forced a tax cut for ALL Americans , preventing Obama from raising taxes on all Americans. At the same time they will be claiming that Obama added another 900 billion dollars to the deficit. They will of course not mention that this addition to the debt was the tax cut......

22. Your thoughts about the effects of the tax abomination hurt
Obama's chances for re-election are correct in my opinion. However, what I meant was that Obama
calculated that the tax compromise would help his chances. I believe that his guess was wrong.

39. Nonsense
When was the last time a Repthug complained about the deficits caused by Bush tax cuts? talk to them and the way they see it, tax cuts increase govt revenue and that its the SPENDING that increases deficits. If they use that argument then they will be abandoning the other which is more important to their small govt, low spending, lower tax rhetoric. They cannot have it both ways and even then most dishonest rethug knows it

4. Is this from the Onion??
Obama will run.

Barney Frank as the 2012 Dem candidate for President? The openly gay Barney Frank?

The GOP focusing not on personality but instead on policy?? That's all they do is personal attacks, period. And if Frank were the nominee, WOW ... their heads would EXPLODE.

You are correct on one thing ... Palin is a clown and while she may jump into the primary for a few minutes, she will quickly bail-out and endorse some one else, probably Romney. Then head back over to Fox news, unless they've already replaced her with Christine O'Donnell, or as I call her Palin 2.0

21. The only reason
any of the dumb belles (Palin, Angle, O'Donnell) enter politics is to make money. SarahPac, and Sharon Angle and Witch O'Donnell both started PAC's so they can accept donations and give themselves a salary. Christine O'Donnell has been running for senator for years and has held no other job. That's her vocation - political office candidate.

5. I can't tell if your post is serious or just a joke?
"Barney Franks/Alan Grayson 2012"

Errr, your not serious are you?

As great a congressman as Barney Frank is, and as much as I like him, he has zero national appeal and would be crushed by almost any Republican - including Sarah Palin. Sorry, but America is most certainly not ready for a gay, liberal President. Not even close.

And Alan Grayson lost his own district by 18 points. It's one thing to lose a race, quite another to get annihilated in embarrassing fashion. He's too blunt to win national office. A great guy who has a super future on talk radio or maybe a show on MSNBC, but on a national level, he is too combative to appeal to much more than the base who love red meat thrown to them.

Obama will most certainly run again 2012, there will be no serious primary challenge and President Obama is very likely to win a second term.

7. 1. I can only hope that he won't run
so the Democrats can run someone competent. However, I don't ever recall Obama saying he would only serve for one term.

2. The Democrats would never put two liberal/radical/progressives on the ticket.

3. We need to stop thinking in terms of Senators. That has seldom worked out well.

4. Damned if I know who I would run, except maybe for Boxer, which cancels out point 3.

15. competent? progressives may have a problem with Obama but few would say he
isn't competent. He is the first president to pass HCR despite 100 years of trying by previous presidents. He passed a far reaching reform of Wall Street. He has passed other important legislation as well. You might not like it but he passed the Tax bill with Unemployemnt extention despite the far left and far right opposing it. The man is not incompetent.

The tax bill is a disaster. It cuts off the first leg of the table that is Social Security. Unemployment extension should never have been tacked on to it. Practically everything he has done or endorsed is short term (seemingly) gains for long term disaster. I call that incompetent.

I listed some pols who I thought might be for the people, if elected as POTUS, and then I suggested it may be too late, therefore "the (great..lol) experiment" was over....I worked 100's of hours to help elect our President. It was, IMO, wasted.

before saying the experiment was over. If it (our system of govt) were over then there would be no need to list preferred presidential candidates, would there?

I simply asked what experiment the poster was referring to, having considered your idea and discarding it for the reasons I've stated here.

13. What a dream world you live in
obviously you don't read polls that show that Democrats are overwhelmingly happy with Obama and that he is beating all the republicans either generically or named. He is winning states in trial heats (commissioned by PPP and Quinnipiac) over the GOP in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. His approval rating is going up in both the CBS and ABC poll--49% in that poll. And you actually think that Barney Frank would win a Democratic Primary against a president that over 80% of Democrats are happy with.

Get real!

20. Uh, this is more the reality.
The economy still mired in "recovery" President Obama is irrelevant to a republican resurgence that has him doing busy work like foreign affairs. The vaunted tax give away will not have the unemployment rate under 9%. China by 2012 will have the republicans and Obama making new trade agreements so they have a chance of getting some of their trillion dollars back that will be the total amount say in 2012.

Healthcare, gutted and more useless (if that is possible) will be a national joke. People as 1099s will soar.

The republican machine will be merciless and deadly. If you think that the ads were bad in last election, 2012 will open a new winow on insanity.

The republicans will control both houses and the presidency after 2012. Obama will be defeated by a landslide.

If he doesn't, there's no way in heck DEMS will win the White House in 2012. I don't think Obama would do this to the party. If Obama doesn't run, it would seem like there is a fractured Democratic party, and it will hand the WH to the repukes.
