Repealed. Thank You Mr. President and Congress! I was DEAD WRONG
Edited on Sat Dec-18-10 03:36 PM by cherokeeprogressive
in thinking that my President and my Congress wouldn't get it done.

I was fucking wrong, and at times unrealistic in my expectations.

Thank You Mr. President, and Thank You Congress!

3. It is a VERY good day and I just got the greatest Christmas present I've ever received.
Another step forward on the road to equality for my daughter.

Thank You Mr. President and Congress. I can't say it enough.

Here's to hoping that, should she wish to marry, that you will dance at her wedding someday. I truly believe that the day will come, and thanks to the vote today, maybe it will come sooner now.

43. More equality, yes.
But I do hope you would rather she marry her love than die for her country. DADT should never have existed but lets not forget we're talking about the right to be equal cannon fodder.

49. It's a big marker in the path to EQUAL equality.
I really don't think she wants her girl to join the military. This is just another verification that all people are created equal, with certain unalienable rights.

15. Yes, except for DREAM
Please, as we celebrate one victory for civil rights, let us remember that another one was lost today. And let us recommit, together, to continue to fight for the DREAM Act.

And I must say, stating for the record that I was dead wrong and unrealistic is at this moment just about the easiest thing I've ever done.

I don't know how you feel about Christmas, but I just got the best Christmas present ever. My daughter comes up on Friday for the holiday, and I cannot wait to see her. I'm sure we'll both break down crying.

What a wonderful day!

It may take another 2-6 years. But I sincerely believe this President will get it done when he's in office. He came through on this and he's going to come through on DOMA. Don't lose faith or hope. Because in the end, that's all we got and Obama in office.

18. The President, the Congress, the activists, particularly those
who are or were military, especially those who were wrongfully discharged, all of these people should get extra stuffing in their Christmas stockings for this good news. That includes those 6 (am I right?) Republicans who voted for the right thing.
And a extra special nasty lump of coal for the extra special nasty John McCain, that dried up old bigot. Thank God the Big Pen belongs to Democrat Barack Obama!

Really. It's your daughter, after all. Parents are allowed to get pissed, emotional, and occasionally even cynical. That's a rule. It comes right after the one that says parents get to embarrass their children every so often, just for fun.

34. I doubted it could be done as well. I was certain a cloture vote would fail...
and I was very angry at the president.

I was wrong, the president seemed to know what he was doing, and the Senate actually came through.

Hey, sometimes crow tastes pretty good. DADT was a repulsive law, and I'm glade somebody finally put a stake through its heart.

41. One of those times when I'm glad to be wrong, too.
I was bracing for another disappointment.

So credit where it's due! Thank you Mr. President. And thank you members of Congress/the Senate who did the correct thing for our country and our fellow citizens. I wonder how many hyenas yapping about how awful this was - that (GASP!!!) gays should be allowed to serve openly in the military - have put THEIR OWN asses on the line for our country? How many of them were/are chickenhawks? Anybody willing to serve in the military, stick his or her neck out and march boldly into harm's way, and put his or her life on the line should be respected, thanked, and afforded every right and privilege this country offers - whether it's full health care for the rest of their lives, a fully-funded VA and other services and benefits, a decent pension for widows/surviving partners and children, a full and complete tour of duty without interruption or abrupt discharge, or citizenship.

53. You should be even more cautious...
because unlike just about every OTHER law ever passed, this one is basically an abdication of Congressional authority to the executive branch. DADT won't be removed UNTIL the Pentagon agrees to remove it.

So until it is actually instrumentally dead, I'd stay in the streets if I were you.
