POS McConnell on START: "I've decided I cannot support the treaty"
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 09:42 AM by jefferson_dem
BREAKING: McConnell opposes START

Washington (CNN) - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky voiced opposition Sunday to the New START - a nuclear arms treaty with Russia - telling CNN's "State of the Union" that members of his party need more time to consider the legislation.

"I've decided I cannot support the treaty," McConnell said.

21. He what? My impression was that he got everything he wanted from the tax compromise.
Are there some hidden details that aren't common knowledge, or do you think that continuing the tax cut for the rich represents the Democrats rolling the Republicans?

10. To hell with the security of our country, McConnell and some Repubs
don't like to lose. Seems he has gone from not being to interested in the outcome of this to, not supporting it at all. More Republican games-childish games at that.
I really, really hope START passes without the support of this a**hole and the other repub a**holes who are just trying to stall the process and make President Obama look bad.

11. That article gives no reasons
His first worry is about it being right before Christmas.

His next excuse is he is worried about how Russia and European allies of the United States "view missile defense."

"The treaty, which has been a top priority for President Obama and Senate Democrats, would resume mutual inspections of U.S. and Russian nuclear arsenals while limiting both nations to a certain number of warheads and launchers."

So in that, there are no good reasons to be found for his "worries."

12. Him, Kyle and McCain are feigning concern over the wording in the preamble.
They are just trying to stall this because they do not want to allow the President to look strong on this issue. Security and defense of our country are suppose to be Republican issues. So, they play games and make excuses on this and while doing so, place our country at risk. I really hope someone calls them out on their BS. Senator Kerry has already pointed out how their concerns are misguided and unfounded, and the McCain amendment on this was voted down, but still these republicans play games and try to delay the entire process.

13. You nailed it
They want any strong legislation to pass under THEIR leadership, especially when it concerns national security. They'll make a few unnecessary tweaks and then pass it without incident after January 1st. Winning is all that matters to them, not governing or policy.

18. It won't be under their control after the first of the year
Only the Senate ratifies treaties and there will be 53 Democrats - we retain the majority.

20. Oh that's right
They've been so obnoxiously arrogant that I'd forgotten that they don't have as much power as they'd like us to believe. Guess they just need to be a persistent pain in the ass as long as Obama is president.

16. "The GOP is weak on national defense." Every Dem should be
screaming that. If the situation was reversed, you can be damn sure the GOP would be bludgeoning the Dems with talking points like that.

19. go to HELL! mcconnell! oh, i forgot: you are in hell...
...and your ilk in the senata are trying to drag the nation down with you!

This version of the g.o.p. (the g stands for GREEDY), with the help from our CRAPPY networkmsm 'news' shows, are hell bent on turning the legislative branch (specifically the senate) into a wasteland where potential laws go to DIE. Does the msm newsshows remind the viewer there aer hundreds of pieces of legislation that have stalled in the senate for the last 2 YEARS because of the cry-baby bulls#it from the republican minority? For 2 f#cking years it's been OBSTRUCTION after OBSTRUCTION after OBSTRUCTION at every turn! Our pathetic media (yes, that means you candy!)has enabled the deterioration of news in this country. Look at the voting record of both parties and you will see who is obstructing to the detriment of the country and to score their cheap-ass political points just because there happens to be a black guy sitting in the executive branch! and the msm are still falling over themselves to try to make the teabagger mvmt legitimate. They are NOT! again, look at the voting record! I will say the the tea party mvmt has the spirit but they are way off target! When it comes down to it, republicans care not about the nation's security (especially when it to renewing treaties and such) but would rather kick it around like a political football and try to grind everything to a halt just to play cheap-ass politics with the nation's security. Is that doing the people's work? Is that defending the constitution of which y'all swore to uphold? Our system is very much broken, including our election systems. If that were not the case, how is it possible POS like mcconnell or demint are able to get themselves elected (by hook or by crook) unless the people of those states are gravely misinformed!

TO the FUGLY senator from Kentucky: know that everytime i see your ugly mug on the tv i'm squishing it repeatedly until it's gone.
