But Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R), who as the authority to deploy the state National Guard in a state emergency, says no way.

"Whatever the final guidelines are from the Department of the Defense, I expect the Virginia National Guard Bureau to adhere to them," McDonnell said during a WTOP radio show

2. Nothing new here we saw many during the Civil Rights struggles claim "state's rights"
and now on this civil rights issue we see more pieces of s**t doing the same thing.

politicians have been trying to obstruct civil rights laws for years, using various reasons. And yes, I did see that the Gov is saying he will adhere to national law.

A state legislator wanted to ban gays in the VA Nat'l Guard. The governor said he will follow federal law.

9. McConnell is a jerk, but that is not what that says.
Marshall says he's working on legislation to institute a DADT-style state law. His authority to do so, he claims, comes from the clause of the U.S. Constitution which reads, "reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia."

But Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R), who as the authority to deploy the state National Guard in a state emergency, says no way.

"Whatever the final guidelines are from the Department of the Defense, I expect the Virginia National Guard Bureau to adhere to them," McDonnell said during a WTOP radio show today.

He's rejecting Marshall's attempt.

11. Isn't it the state legislator Marshall that wants to keep DADT?
Edited on Wed Dec-22-10 10:13 AM by dkf
This is what McDonnell is saying: "While I disagree with the action the Congress took based on my own experience in the military," he said, "we can't have two different systems in the military and our National Guard."

And that Marshall idiots rationalization is stupid. DADT doesn't disallow GLBTs from being GLBT or from being in the military, they just can't talk about it. If he is really afraid of transfusions from a gay soldier, isn't it better if he knows who is gay?

12. Besides the fact that it was the legislator who brought this forward
I would imagine that if there was any federal funding going to the VANG, it would stop if they didn't adhere to federal laws, guidelines, etc.

Media will try to convince the world you are a Moderate
Republican although the Moderates have been purged from
the Republican Party.

14. Why do they always leave this part out?
End of last line.
To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia "according to the discipline prescribed by Congress";

17. 100 to 1 this asshole never served a day in the Armed Forces. All
his blather about "when the enemy is at 600 yards, etc. etc." is nothing more than the babblings of another proud member of the 101st Keyboard Regiment. Dipshit.

the national guard bureau who sets training and funding guidelines would smack the taste out their mouths. It would be a futile overreach that would play great for the Dems. In fact I'm rather disappointed that a cave dweller like McDonnell didn't take chance to ratchet up "teh crazy".
