They would be very useful in taking our the Libyan Air Force. And none would object. This is an opportunity for the US military to do some good. We may not like Predator Drones but I would argue that in Libya right now

1. are you suggesting that USA would use drones against Libyan Air Force? Somehow I doubt that...

Perhaps there is a chance to do good, but we are too busy slaughtering "suspected terrorists" for that....

It has always bothered me that we kill "suspected" terrorists because when it is proven we were wrong and it was just a wedding the people are still just as dead.

and on edit - haven't we caused enough harm in the Middle East with our juntas and our dictators - not to mention our Fallujas and other war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan?

2. The US needs to mind its business.
Although if the US did get involved it would be to do oil companies bidding, and that would be to oppress those people, not get rid of the current leadership. Don't kid yourself.

The last time the U.S. used war power "for good purposes" ended up bombing the HELL out of Belgrade, bombed the Chinese Embassy there ("bad maps"), and other stupid things during that useless war that made people feel good (based on a pack of lies) and killed a lot of people - all so Islamic radicals could move on Kosovo - a province of SERBIA. ALWAYS!

I don't like using the U.S. war machine in places we have no business being. We aren't GlobalCop.

7. What?
Useless war? Pack of Lies? Islamist radicals? "Province or Serbia. ALWAYS!"?

Why does it sound like you have a horse in that tired, old race?

Anyway, as to the OP, I don't think that bombing the Libyan Air Force would be all that conductive for relations in a country who's leader aspires to be the next Emperor of Africa.

10. That is a valid point
and I don't have any way to argue convincingly against their being a moral equivalence except to say that our interests in the middle east are vastly different and broaders than with China

8. Sorry, but I think the US military belongs in the US.
Not in the rest of the world. Chances are, in the situation you presented, it would just blow up in our faces anyways, and we would be resented for it.

Military force is usually never the answer anyways. :)

11. Are Predator Drones suited for air to air combat?
Or do they just drop bombs?

12. Precision Guided munitions
Yeah they drop bobs but really missiles at key targets like aircraft command and control centers and runways. I am just saying we could take out the ability of the airforce to mow down their citizens

14. I think the no-fly zone suggested on the other thread might be a better option
Drones sometimes miss military targets, and civilian casualties would not be good. Plus there's a chance that if we set up a no-fly zone, Qaddafi might just stop using his planes to kill people, knowing they will just be shot down.
